What's it like to mount and carry this bazooka on an A7 series body? How does the lens handle? I have the Sony 135 GM which is close in size and weight - does the Sigma 35/1.2 handle similarly?
If feels like carrying the 135/1.8 GM, except that the Sigma is slightly longer and heavier. I actually wish this was a smaller/ligher f/1.4 with the same IQ and rendering. (Not a fan of the their SLR f/1.4 version)

I had the same dilemma and after weeks of debating I decided that the only way is to try the Sigma myself. I have to say I don't feel much, if any, difference between 135 GM and 35/1.2.The weight is distributed close to the body so it doesn't feel that heavy, but as others have noted shooting with one hand is rather difficult (maybe I need to work out more ). On the other hand, this lens made me appreciate "big" lenses .

As with anything, it'll always be easier to find negative experiences since that's when most will ever provide feedback (myself included).
Really too bad about your experience with the lens. Traded in my Zeiss almost a month ago and easily have over 1000 shots. So far so good regarding AF, noise, and experience with the lens. So add me to the positive side so far!
I know that it's easyer to find negative experiences, but my own experience was very, very frustrating, so it probably doesn't make me totally neutral.
But : by discussing on this forum and checking on others forums, it occured that I wasn't the only one to have for instance complete freezes with my (otherwise not bad at all) Samyang 35 1.4 on Sony A9. I never read that for the Zony.
It's hard to find a tendancy in the complaints for the first months, because yes, people who are talking about their problems are the only one who have some. But after a few months / years, it becomes easyer to identify some recurrent problems. That's what I do for now with the Sigma 35 1.2.

Hi guys, just letting you know I sent my lens back and they replaced it immediately, the squeak noise of the AF on the new one is gone. Very pleased and the speed of service was superb. Back to shooting.

Took delivery of it today (ordered via Greentoe for 1350). Was fulfilled by a major retailer, am completely satisfied. I just wish I had something to shoot, no cats or people around.

I love mine too. It makes 35 mm a much more fun FL to shoot when in focus areas are razor sharp and you can blur the background of a full body shot.
I REALLY with Sigma would update their 85 mm to be a mirrorless design and f/1.2. If they can make a 85 mm designed like this 35 mm, then can take my money.

I just ordered the Sony 35 1.8. I haven't received it yet. I'm not opposed to carrying a larger/heavier lens around. I keep wishing Sony would make the RX1R iii. Rendering wise, this may be the closest I can get to one, albeit in a "slightly" larger package.
How is Eye-AF and AF-C performance with it, particularly at closer distances?

Agree! John's images likely account for 90% of why I got this unicorn of a lens.
Glad to hear I could be of help.

The Sony 35/1.8 is the in between lens for me which is why I could never be interested at its current price point. It would either need it to be much smaller or much faster. It may be the perfect compromise for many, but I already have a bunch of smaller lenses with compromises in the range that I'm perfectly content with without having to drop another 750 bucks.
That being said, I'm not opposed to playing with one at 500 bucks.
To answer your question regarding AF, it has worked well for me in AF-C w/ Eye-AF as I am in AF-C 100% of the time with this lens. However, I am certain it won't be to the level of the 35/1.8 as it is a third party lens with significantly larger elements to move. That being said, 1.8 is 1.8 and 1.2 is 1.2.
On another note, I haven't actually walked around and shot this thing at 1.8 yet to test if the AF speed/accuracy is any better with the larger DoF. At 1.2 though, it has more than exceeded my expectations in the AF department.
500 is actually the upper end of what I'd consider as I already have enough lenses (GM 24, FE 28 SY 35/2.8, and Sigma 35) in the general range that I would use in similar fashion. The 35/1.8 would only be added for me purely as an exploratory sh*ts and grins type thing.
It would have to offer me something really different like testicle shaped bokeh and bizarre flare patterns for me to really want to take a look at it even at 600.42 USD.
