Getting close!

500 is actually the upper end of what I'd consider as I already have enough lenses (GM 24, FE 28 SY 35/2.8, and Sigma 35) in the general range that I would use in similar fashion. The 35/1.8 would only be added for me purely as an exploratory sh*ts and grins type thing.

No problem, we'll call back on Boxing Day with the sale price

Glad to hear I could be of help.

The Sony 35/1.8 is the in between lens for me which is why I could never be interested at its current price point. It would either need it to be much smaller or much faster. It may be the perfect compromise for many, but I already have a bunch of smaller lenses with compromises in the range that I'm perfectly content with without having to drop another 750 bucks.

That being said, I'm not opposed to playing with one at 500 bucks.

I'm a little concerned about the Sony, which is why I'm considering the Sigma. The other lenses I have are the 24GM, Batis 40 (I use this for close up work - only because it can get closer than the CV 40 1.2), Sony 50 1.4 ZA, 85GM, 100 STF GM, and 135GM. So the 35 1.8 is the odd man out in terms of terms of what I'm used to using.

I'm certain the FE 35/1.8 will be a rock solid all-around lens so there isn't much to worry about there.

If it were me though (with your line up), especially with the B40 already in the bag, I'd definitely consider the Sigma 35/1.2 to give you something that is a bigger departure than the 35/1.8 would be.

Another one from the weekend.

My wife and daughter's obsessions are ordering a thousand things from Amazon/Target every week and crafts, respectively. It works out perfectly and are both evident in this shot.

Nice lineup of top shelf lenses, the Sigma 35 will fit right in!

I finally registered here instead of lurking, just to say that this thread swung my decision to get the 1.2 and it's arriving Tuesday. Super excited about it. Thank you guys for sharing.

I find it interesting that so many of the posted shots are in plentiful light which demonstrates the F1.2 thin DOF and appealing bokeh. I really bought the lens for another, high IQ, 1/2 stop of light.

I've been a member for some time now, and had been checking this thread every few hours to see the images that were being posted. I couldn't take it any longer so I pulled the trigger in time to have it for this trip. Here are a few from a recent trip to Maui. Most of these are at f/1.2. I have a few portrait sessions coming up in the next few weeks. Can't wait to see how the files look then. Thanks everyone for sharing your images, your knowledge and your personal opinions.

Hadn't posted in a while. Took me a bit to figure out how to get the images to show up and not just the links

The lens can definitely perform in low light conditions. It's just that we finally have a lens that can perform so well with reduced Loca along with lovely rendering that we see so many of those examples. Some low light samples SOOC

If feels like carrying the 135/1.8 GM, except that the Sigma is slightly longer and heavier. I actually wish this was a smaller/ligher f/1.4 with the same IQ and rendering. (Not a fan of the their SLR f/1.4 version)

Sounds like the Tamron 35mm f1.4 is calling you Fred!

Has anyone tested if EFCS on/off makes a difference in bokeh at 1.2 over 1/1000?

As far as I know, all large aperture lenses on Sony (or any other camera with a similar EFCS design) will have subtle degradation of bokeh at high shutter speeds.

That being said, I have been testing both with this lens (and my other primes) and you really have to pixel peep to convince yourself of a difference.

I did a video recently about this and you can see from my sample, there is no need to pixel peep at all to
"convince" yourself. You can clearly see it just a normal image size on a monitor.

Have not real tests, but also have not seen any real concerns with this lens!

This one above was at 1.2 and 1/8000, ECFS on
