My review copy should arrive next week.

Per your request, Fred.

Some more of my usual stuff and a few cross-posted from the review thread. Just wanted to get this started.

I also started a Sigma 35/1.2 E Mount Photo thread about 2 days ago, but having trouble finding it now...from the other thread:

“Thought I’d start it off. Really sharp lens, even wide open. Size is really not too bad, smaller than their 40/1.4. Fun to use, subject separation is great at portrait distance. Solid new-dad lens as well.

Did miss some eye-AF with my son though. Maybe user error, will have to continue using it to find out.”

Interesting. Did a search before I created the new thread and came up with nothing as well.

Anyhow, agreed on the lens. Just loving it so far.

Side note - As expected, I've had more success with AF on the A9 than the R3 with this thing.

3 Shot burst as I'm running backwards and she's coming by pretty fast.

Missed one that I wanted to post earlier from yesterday's set. Slightly further back without any dramatic lighting.

John, have you had the Sigma 40mm f/1.4 Art before? If you do or did, how is the handling of this Sigma 35mm lens relative to that Art lens? They are both big and heavy but any difference in handling? Thank you!

BTW, the thread that NRKStudio started is here: https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1607382/0#14933315. Not that it matters....

Passed on the 40 in hopes of something like the 35. Wish came true.

I will say though that the weight distribution feels way better than all my other large lenses. It's not small and it does feel like quite a hunk of glass but I have been taken plenty of shots one-handed (if that says anything). Love the aperture ring and program button.

Interesting find on the other thread. I think I must've typed in 35mm instead of 35/1.2.

It is crazy how well the weight is distributed. I had the 40/1.4 for a while, and definitely could not one-hand shoot with it. Today I one-handed the 35/1.2 quite a bit.

Compared to the 135GM which is close in size, the 35/1.2 feels noticeably smaller at the end of your camera . The 28/1.4 Art also suffers from front end weight, but it’s also possible to one-hand it.

The 35/1.2: It’s still a huge lens though. If you don’t have an l-bracket (I use the smallrig on my a7r3) or some type of added grip, it’s not a good lens to carry around all day. I kept wanting to reach for my 24GM today when I went to the aquarium with my son and wife...the 35/1.2 around my neck did not feel good with a baby on my arm.

Aren't they essentially the same size and weight?
I'm seeing size comparison of:

35 1.2 = 3.46 x 5.36" 38.45 oz
40 1.4 = 3.5" x 5.2" 42.30 oz

People complain endlessly about the HUGE and heavy 40 1.4, but not the 35 1.2.

That's the Canon/Nikon specs for the Sigma 40/1.4...

The Sigma 40/1.4 E-mount is actually: 3.5" x 6.18". Almost 1 inch longer than the 35/1.2. The weight is 1,270g or 44.80 oz (vs 1,090g or 38.45 oz for the 35/1.2)
The Canon mount + MC-11 is even heavier. (about 40g more at 1,310g)

Great point, Fred. It is often overlooked when people are doing size comparison with the DSLR Sigma lenses that were merely modded for E mount.

I can't speak to the 40 as I haven't shot it. But as I've stated previously, this new 35, while large, feels well-balanced in the hand. I prefer the balance of it to the 20/1.4 Art if that is any indication.

Couple shots from this evening albeit not wide open (I don't think).

That lens is pretty amazing. I probably won't get it because I don't need a faster 35 than my 35ZM, but I love everything I am seeing from it.

My first (boring) pictures with my new toy. It's reasonably sharp everywhere in the frame WO, well centered, fast and almost silent AF, good bokeh with not a lot of CA. Finally a fast 35 which just delivers. It will be my new wedding king, I can't wait to try it this saturday.

Default sharpening, check out the dogs fur. Surprisingly sharp wide open for f1.2.

Some more. AF speed and tracking are also proving to be very good in these conditions. By far the best experience I've ever had with a AF 1.2 lens.

I finally figured out how to post an image in the thread properly |:

Here's a few shots that are f/1.2 and f/1.4 with some light editing, but no deliberate CA adjustments. Uncropped.
