woah! I did not expect that bokeh from Sigma! I might actually pull the trigger on this one (currently using the Sony 1.4 and quite happy with it, but still... )

Nonetheless, would you be surprised if the Z 50/1.8 is sharper than the FE 55/1.8? The darn lens is bigger and heavier by a significant margin.
Biggest complaint with the FE 1.8/55 I've seen has been its longitudinal chromatic aberration- one could shoot around it as has been needed for lenses with similar levels since the beginning of the type, but it's a bit embarrassing in its intensity for a lens otherwise of the caliber (and price). On balance, the lens is seriously lightweight and compact, and brings versatility to the range.
Acuity really never enters in the equation; all the detail one could need is a stop away. Two and 61MP isn't hardly enough.
And with Sony targeting the 5D(s) and D8x0 ranges with the A7r IV in most respects, I could see the FE 1.8/55 only growing in utility.
Now, with respect to the 35/1.2 | Art, there's quite a bit to like, and I'm surprised that comparisons are directed more toward the FE 35/1.4 than say Canon's 35/1.4 L II. The Canon lens is sharper and better corrected and likely has more comparable rendering to the Sigma than Sony's lens, such to the point that the Sony and Sigma could seem more complementary with a good case made for owning both outside of cost and perhaps kit size and weight.

Ah. Mine is coming from Kenmore. I got lucky and scooped up the only one they received. Coughed up some extra cheese to get it 2nd day UPS so it'll be here Thursday according to the tracking.

I have no idea when Adorama will ship this and 45mm. Do anybody know the releasing information? Sigma said 7/26.
Is that means I am not in the first batch? I would assume Panasonic users get theirs fast given tiny user base.
Adorama was one of the places I called and they said they hadn't received their shipment yet. The rep also said they ordered 60 with about 36 preorders placed. No anticipated receipt date.

You raised a good point about the FE 55 that I kinda avoided . But the S 50/1.8 is indeed superior in this respect. I still think if Nikon managed to do the same size and weight as the FE 55 with all the current perks, that would really prove a point. And if stopping down to solve the sharpness problem, you can say the same about most of the color error. It's all about high IQ right WO nowadays. Nikon S stands for Superior quality and apparently they are using that badge for all of their mirrorless lenses so far.
As for the 35/1.2 Art, since it can't be used on any of the Canon body atm, a comparison to the Canon is moot. And by the look of it, quite few here are using the Canon 35/1.4 on the Sony. The excitement about this Sigma is that it's the first Sigma FF mirrorless lens with f/1.2 and a 35mm. If it was a f/1.4 lens, I doubt there would be as much excitement.

It looks really nice. I'm curious how it compares to the Milvus 35/1.4, which some have said is the best 35 ever made (I tend to agree). The Sigma is so huge that it actually beats the Milvus in size and weight, even though the latter is a DSLR lens...no easy feat!

I am hoping this Sigma 35mm f1.2 will come out in Canon mount, for the added versatility. I am quite happy with Sigma 24 and 50 Art lenses in EF mount and using MC-11 adapter for Sony.

Nice to see more people getting this so we can have more reviews.
I have this unproven theory that the first lens sold are usually the best samples
If I am a lens manufacturer and I made 1000 lens in the first batch, I would send out the best 200 initially to the shops. One to get good reviews out and two to generate some shortage hype

I've been searching/waiting for an AF 35/40. Sold the Sigma 35/1.4, almost bought the Batis 40, then finally pre-ordered the Sony 35/1.8 for a lightweight casual lens solution. But now I'm thinking the 24GM could keep playing that role, and this Sigma could be in my future. I kinda liked shooting with the big and heavy ART 35...

It totally makes sense if the 50s being sharper; bigger and newer design. Sony could design a bigger lens to better abberation control and there goes the mount size theory out of the window haha, or they could not..
Either way, their first lenses was to show size and weight reduction of mirrorless so they didnt make big lenses..

Well its not like the zeiss is a bad lens or a character lens, its still a modern lens thats sharp wide open (but not into the corners, obviously) so totally make sense to compare this new sigma. The zeiss is still modern but has that very nice rendering that many portrait photographers prefer it to 35L II, a friend of mine actually use the FE 35/1.4 and RF 85/1.2 as his primary portrait setup.
Owning both is a direction Im heading, waiting a bit more samples to judge bokeh from Fred and the usual suspects..

Actually there isn't much of a difference between f1.2 or f1.4. If it was up to me, I wish Sigma just did a similar lens at f1.4 and made it slightly smaller and lighter assuming they can keep the same kind of rendering.
The canon is just too expensive to me for an adapted lens... you need to get adaptor and there are always questions on how the AFC tracks, no button on lens.
The sigma is built just like my 24gm with aperture ring and programmable button. If only it is just as light...

Best I have ever seen in any lens.
But if you haven't seen that in the samples provided yet, I can now be sure there is no such thing as 3D effect, as it has never been more obvious imho.

Perhaps you are right, but we will just have to wait and see if the market has turned a corner and maybe now a version of mirrorless-designed lenses will be able to be shot on Canon EF, R or Sony via MC-11 adapter.
