Thanks Guy. Very limited shooting but I like it already. The colors, rendering and sharpness are really good. Ergonomics are good too . . . especially removing the lens from the camera although, that won't be happening much right now!

Cross post from the FE image thread, here's some shots I took last night at a local classic car show.
Great shots, Bob!
Am I wrong in that I detect a bit of barrel distortion, or is that just the shape of that roof line and the bibulousness of closer focus. Just curious. As you say, all other attributes are heavily in the plus column!
You have an unerring sense of the best gear to acquire -- you are my trusty canary, along with Joshua and Fred!

It may certainly be some slight barrel distortion but I know that roof line is not straight otherwise . . . Thanks for the comment Jim. We can all thank Fred and Guy for all their testing . . .
The CV 21/1.4 is the first lens with straight aperture blades where I think the sunstar effect looks nice. There must be a subtle difference between 12 blades in the CV 21/1.4. Maybe each ray is slightly weaker than with the 10 blade lenses. This in addition to there being two (?) more rays.

I'm also preferring the new 12-point sunstars. The new aperture mechanism tends to render shorter sun-rays at smaller apertures compared to apertures with 10 blades.
I call it the Wanaka Tree from the Hariksee ;-) – The tree is living in the water, like the Wanaka tree. I have taken this picture with 3 different lenses – the Voigtländer shoot is maybe the best …
I don't prefer the sunstars this lens produces. They are not well defined, have color/blobs in or around them, and I just find them to look to skinny and small (the size might be OK, but the sunstar spikes are too skiny - remind me of a cheap sunstar filter). I'd take a Loxia 21 sunstar any day.
So I bought the CV 21f3.5 and 35f1.4 I wanted a really small kit, only had them both a month, enjoyed the small size, I am going away for a few days and will be taking just one lens, my hand went past the CV 35 and picked up the CV 40 and just like that I realized I will always go for the 40,
And why is this relevant to the 21 thread, well I also realized that I may well go for the 21f1.4 over my 21f3.5 and I suppose there is only 1 way to find out

😂 I do the SAME thing.
Luckily for me, I picked up the CV 21/3.5 too and I’m not tempted by the 21/1.4 since the 24GM is so good.

The 24GM was my plan too, the cv21/3.5 as the walkabout complimented with the 24gm, but now I am just not sure where the 24 fits in for me, I think a fast AF 35 will suit me better, will give the 21/3.5 more time but I am tempted by the f1.4

Off topic, but at a recent family reunion I tried using the CV 21/3.5 as a portrait lens in crop mode on the R3. Set at f4 and with an equivalent 32mm focal length, it was VERY good. So sharp I was amazed and with a rendering that was quite beautiful. Now, I’m sure the 1.4 version would be better, but dang was it a nice experiment.
