Stevvi: in the castle scene comparison did you take several photos with each lens using fresh AF for each capture, and then select the best one from each lens? It's surprising / unexpected that the sharpness of the zoom is better, more so given that 35 mm is its worst LF.
Saw similar amount of chromatic aberration in my copy of the 35 f1.8 as I shoot in backlit conditions a lot, so ended up returning it. Felt like eye-AF wasn't as good with my A7 mk3 too
One more tidbit discovered while going through the menus. It is compatible with the "Aperture Drive in AF" setting (you can set it as "Standard" or "Silent Priority").

So in Mystik’s photo (previously uncorrected), if I do a lot of jpeg SOOC to an iPad, and I don’t like the purple and green on the blinds...I would be sort of stuck with this feature? Funny that they wouldn’t try harder to correct for this in camera if it is so prominent.
Will have to stick to RAW + LR I guess. Minor inconvenience.

What you see in the blinds (which looks like @Mystik replaced for a corrected version) is Longitudinal CA and not Lateral CA. The latter is the color aberration that gets automatically minimized with a built-in profile when editing raw files. (I'm sure jpegs too)

Fred I think you can sell the CV 35/1.4, this one can do "funky" too (at MFD). Looks similar to what I saw with your "Van Gogh" sunflower photos.

Aside from what we already know, I don't have an opinion on the FE 35/1.8 yet. The Sigma 45/2.8 is a keeper for me and it's one of my favorite lenses. I really like using it for informal portraits. (friends gathering, family, travel, etc.)

Whoops. Fixed.
Just noticed that I don't have the lens profile installed and the windows were blown out on my monitor so I didn't see it when processing.
It's a literal 1 minute fix even without the profile.
I believe when you shoot JPEG, the lens correction is baked into the JPEG. It's when you shoot raw that you need apply the correction manually.

Fred, thanks for the explanation. I know the profile corrects for some aberrations and distortion, but at least the rest is fixable in LR. Still, I am on the fence. Think I will rent and see how it goes.
The Sigma looks very nice but I really want that f/1.8 or wider. So what to do.

If you hate longitudinal CA, the FE 35/1.8 and pretty much all 35mm lenses on the market won't make you happy. The Sigma 35/1.2 and Canon 35/1.4L II will do better than the others but they are very big lenses.
The only compact alternative I can think of is the Sigma 45 which is well corrected for color aberration...but it's 45mm and f/2.8 which you don't want.

Mystik - much better! I am booked to rent this tomorrow. Interested if this is corrected for SOOC jpeg or not. Simply for convenience on informal day to day photos sending to friends etc. Seems maybe not but will see in person shortly.
Fred - if this doesn’t work out, I will focus on ‘arm day’ at the gym for Sigma walkaround days. (Or maybe just bring the lens itself to the gym?)

Tamron has teased us with 3 small primes, maybe they’ll have the answer. Their latest DSLR 35/1.4 (SP) is quite well corrected for LoCA, so there’s hope.
