Very interesting to compare the dpreview pictures (freds link). I compared them all by f1.8 and the new FE3518 is in the center sharper then the FE3514ZA! (Same as Canon EF35 f1.4II) Amazing!
@timerickson: One big advantage for the FE3518 compared to the Batis 40 seems the possibility to use the maximum aperature of 1.8 even at the MFD of 0.22m. The Batis closes to 2.8 at 0.24m (starting to reduce by 0.65m)
In Janniks test at phillipreeve is obvious that zeiss not yet solved the problem of missfocus (in conjunction with the closing aperature beginning by 0.65m).
So it seems the less bulky FE3518 would be more easy to recommend. But letś wait for more reviews
Very weird test though. Some lenses show green fringing and others magenta. I have the feeling they were not focused at the exact same subject.
The FE 35/1.8 seems to have similar CA correction compared to the FE 35/1.4 ZA @f/1.8. At least it won't have the onion ring pattern which is very obvious in images from faster FE.

Just got mine and so far looking really good. Small and light (same size as FE55) with really lovely bokeh wide open and pretty sharp across the frame at f1.8
Looking forward to putting it through it's paces for street and documentary work as I have been waiting for this lens since the A7 was launched.

Great I'm looking I'm short a lens between 24/85. Sold my Sigma 35 1.4 so love to see some images with this

Okay so if I push the lens to some extreme contrast situations I can get quite a bit of CA but I have to say the latest version of Lightroom Classic corrects it perfectly with a couple of clicks of the defringe dropper tool. Impressive

Sounds great thanks. I just can't decide what I want .
For me it just fits the original ethos of the A7 series with having a setup that is FF but still small and light

Trying to decide if I want to keep my preorder on this or get the sigma. No huge lenses in my kit right now, but I do a lot of traveling and would want to bring whatever I get along.
17-28, 55, roki 85 is my selection right now. Trying to figure out what 35 I want is infuriating.

Almost pulled the plug...I think I will treat myself to a color camera (A7III) before buying this. Almost all my cams are now monochrome so, the CA will not bother me much.

I think that all the LoCA talk is a bit exaggerated and I'm guilty of that too.
The FE 35/1.4 ZA seems to have just as much CA but I don't hear much complaint about it. Another two high regarded lenses with very noticeable color fringing are the FE 24/1.4 GM and RX1RII's Sonnar 35/2.
