p.4 #1 · Hasselblad 907x & CFV II 50C

I don't think there's much point in debating Fuji's MF offerings against Hasselblad, they're for two different users.. especially the 907x/CFVii50c... though a couple of items just want to call out here.

Not sure why anyone would want to have this. The disadvantages compared to Fujifilm GFX are just staggering. Output, build quality, UI, functionality reliability, price, whatever you ask, GFX is ahead, if not far ahead.

All of that is subjective for the most part, and I feel the opposite almost across the board. I rented the GFX 50S and lenses for a week before deciding to go with Hasselblad.

I think the output is better on the Hassy, as is the UI and functionality. I don't think Fuji holds a candle to the work Hasselblad has done on their color science. I think reliability is probably similar. I'll agree with you on price, Fuji and lenses are cheaper for sure. Build quality is probably close, though I guess I can see at first glance why one might go to Fuji as far as the build as the GFX are huge beasts.. the X1D/II and GFX are all weather sealed.. doubt the CFVii50c/907x is but that's function of having a digital back.

Not to mentioned overpriced. Get a GFX-50R same sensor very small and easy to handle Plus you can use Cspture One instead of the awful Phocus

That sums it about up, though you missed the part that this has no proper shutter either and relies on either a central shutter in the lens, or an electronic shutter.

I thought the 50S was super clunky and old fashioned when I used it. Reminded me of a huge VCR deck from the 1980's. That being said, I am a big fan of the leaf shutters, I would prefer not to have a central shutter. Also, Lightroom works very well for the Hassy raw files, and if you wish, you can use Capture One with an extra step or two, most of us have just found that Lightroom is more than sufficient. The only times I actually use Phocus are for tethering in the studio to capture the images, then I import them into LR anyways. I will say that the Phocus 2 mobile app is amazing, and is far an away the best mobile photo app I've used. I actually bring my iPad in the field now when shooting landscape, it works really well.

Do you actually own one of these cameras? That is what I thought...

The image quality, design, build quality and user interface of the Hasselblad X1D II are second to none, much better than any other camera I have ever owned.

Yeesh.

Note to self for the future: dont tell Hasselblad X fans what you think. It triggers them.

Only if you state "what you think" as an indisputable fact without having any practical experience to back it up...

BTW, I love Fuji cameras, I have owned 4 Fuji cameras in the past and might own more in the future, they are excellent, you won't hear me say a bad word about Fuji.

I agree with build quality of Hassy is exceptional. Ergo and menu system are 2nd to none as well, (I feel menu system of most Leica and GFX here are as good and might even more functional at some aspects) LCD is bright and big. Having said that, I don't think it offers noticeable better file than Fuji GFX, they are more similar than different IMHO. It is a plus minus thing to me.

Fuji build as good but a little old school, it shapes like contax645 if you load EVF with tilt adapter, operating remind me of D700, big and assured. It feels old school loaded with modern tech and electronics. With TL1 EVF adapter, I can't think of anything more fun to use than it in recent years. I have to admit, I only adapt FF lens or manual MF glasses and sold all native GF glasses as I don't plan to take it for landscape or travelling and for travel and AF, there are many better systems out there.

For pure fun, slow paced shooting like landscape, city, architecture, I would also pick Hasselblad 907 with DB over anything, it is a very cool tool/gadget. For daily use, it will rank low compare to any other systems for my personal pleasure. The EVF/LCD/shutter delay, (E shutter delay is huge in additional to 1/3 sec readout) No focal plane shutter, lousy AF, lousy manual focus by wire implementation in Lens. (45P might be the real fun lens which I didn't have. )

I have been there and done that. I look forward to see a focal plane version of X1D III or IV in the future, though I do hope they redesign their AF motor based on latest AF tech on their X glasses. If I have V system, with 907 or not, the digital back seems a big plus for normal and short tele shooting, big, slow but fun.

Pick a system is personal. None of above matters as long as you enjoy it and use it

I fully agree with that last statement!

FWIW, I shoot the X1D II pretty much exclusively with the native lenses.

It would definitely not be my platform of choice if I was mainly looking to adapt (non-Hasselblad) legacy lenses.

About the AF, after reading and watching many reviews online I was convinced that that this camera did not autofocus at all but it does...

The whole AF race actually leaves me a bit bored: (Sony,Canon) > (Nikon,Fuji) > (Panasonic,Leica) > Hasselblad.

I would like Hasselblad to improve its AF in the future, but in the meanwhile I have gotten used to it and it will do for what I use the camera for, fully aware that the AF of my Canon EOS R is significantly better...

With Canon R, you have nice systems for any demand.

I don't mind pure AF or MF but mostly mind poor implemented either. Leica S glass come into mind here, however they have very nice real focus rings. The worst one for me personally is poor implemented AF with poor implemented focus by wire

45P might be the lens I would love, too bad I can't get hold of one before I decide part with X1DII system. I really miss the handling and that beautiful LCD screen. It get many thing right there at top, just need sort a few things out to be a more versatile system.

Even though, some of these things are quite fetal to my personal use, I applaud what they did right for X system. I wish Leica can learn a thing or two from them for their future Medium format MILC system if there is one.

I have the 45P, the 80mm and the zoom. I have been using the zoom and the 80mm the most but the 45P is very convenient and very compact, for medium format that is.

About the Leica S, I own the S2, 2 S-lenses and 6 Contax lenses (plus adapter).

At a certain point in time I thought about investing more into the system but now I am very very glad that I didn't.

It is a shame how Leica ran that system into the ground by no longer investing in it. I guess the user base is probably too small and they are just letting it bleed to death now? Who knows?
