I am planning to add a macro to my S1R kit at some point - And your shots have me considering the Siggy 70mm. Have you tried the 105mm as well? I'd love to hear your thoughts! I kinda wish there was a stabilized version in between, like the excellent Sony 90/2.8

S1R + 70-200/4
Howdy Mat!
I haven't tried the Siggy 105/2.8 Macro Art....yet! Actually, I'm on my second Siggy 70/2.8 Macro Art. My first copy was in E-mount and was primarily used with the A7RIV for scanning film. I sold all my Sony gear and E-mount lenses when I moved to Leica L-mount. I did consider the 105/2.8 Macro Art when I was looking at macro lenses for scanning my film, but went with the 70/2.8 Art again due to the following factors: Familiarity, Weight, Lens Collar and Cost.
Since I've had a good relationship with the Siggy 70mm, I didn't want to "fix something that isn't broke" and stick with what I knew that worked. As for the weight, I wanted to keep my film scanning setup as light as possible in order to minimize an induced moment on my scanning stand. Of the two Siggy macro lenses, I could only find a lens collar for the 70/2.8 Macro Art. The lens collar aids greatly in trying to keep the plane of focus parallel with to that of the film plane by offsetting the weight of the setup to the lens collar and not on the bottom of the camera. Even if the there was a lens collar for the 105/2.8 Art, I would still go for the 70mm if both lenses cost the same.
The SL2-S + Siggy 70mm is much heavier than the Sony A7RII + Siggy 70mm...which has me looking at the Sigma fp L to replace the SL2-S for film scanning. The fp L is much lighter and has all the extra resolution for getting as much scanned gelatin goodness.
With that said, I've read that the 105/2.8 Macro Art is no slouch! If I do pick one up, it will be on sale and not for film scanning, but for chasing bugs, flowers and perspired rodents.
Old setup w/ A7RIV + Siggy 70mm Macro Art. I don't have a picture with the SL2-S + Siggy 70mm though, however, you can see how one would want to keep total weight of the camera and lens to a minimum. 35mm Film Scanning w/ Negative Supply by Senior Frog, on Flickr
If you do get the Siggy 70mm, and want a lens collar, you can pick one up fom here.

Awesome! thanks for all the info. Yes, a large part of my why I'm considering a macro lens for the S1R is for scanning film as well. But I also like have a moderately fast & moderately tele lens for walking around, the 90/2.8 is probably what I miss most about the Sony system! Thanks for the tip in the tripod ring, I can see how that would be of great benefit - I have a similar scanning setup to you, albeit somewhat more 'economical'. I too had issues with the vertical plane due to the weight of the camera/lens combo, so this might be the answer. Thanks again!
I've got the 70mm Siggy Art Macro in EF mount ... it's plenty sharp. Wish I could just have the mount changed to the L mount, but I may have to sell / repurchase. I'm hoping that when the CL2 finally arrives, the protocols for the L>EF adapter from Siggy will work this go 'round. If that's the case, I'll likely just get the adapter (other EF glass, e.g. TS-E), and keep the 70 Macro Art in EF. Otherwise, I'll have to sell / repurchase for L mount.

Either way, the Siggy is a viable option for me.
Refresh my memory, what was the issue you had your first try again? I picked up the MC-21, and have tried the ZE 50/2 Makro Planar with it, it seems to work flawlessly on the S1R. However, I haven't tried AF, I'll give that go today if I can.

S1R + 70-200/4
The MC-21 is reported from multiple sources as not compatible with the Leica CL. I've not tried it myself ... accepting the credibility of those different sources. Not sure if that is a Leica thing all the way around, or if it is specific to the CL, but will be something I'll have an eye to when(ever) the CL2 arrives.

Ah yes, that rings a bell now. It didn't work with the SL at least initially, but does with the SL2 I believe. Best of luck!
