Thanks Rich. Thats the plan anyway (100-400mm GM and the 1.4X TC) Was just hoping to bring along the 200-600 too. This is the first time I've preordered from Amazon.com so maybe there is a slight chance the delivery estimate could move up ?

Sommer time it is less snow though.
I had Fe 200-600 and Fe 100-400 with me but I end up using only 100-400+1.4x for BIF cause 200-600 was too heavy for long time shooting without monopod or tripod support.

I find the GM 100-400 excellent IQ and with 1.4xTC surprising good IQ too.

Both combinations has great IQ and AF at least with A9. The weight is main the difference that makes me choose which one I use.
200-600 you can add TC for longer reach.

So a 1.4x on 100-400 seems to fit the bill (maybe a tad worse than 200-600 but still high quality). Does a 2x (on 100-400) makes switching (or doubling) to a 200-600 a quite visible step up (both in IQ and AF)? I am with A9 only at least for 12-15 months, maybe then I could think to some body upgrade.

take the 200-600 but if not then the 500PF will have to do.
I just hate carrying the huge battery charger for the D850.....never could

^Yeah, I'm wondering if it's an Amazon vs. other stores issue. The 3 of us with September delivery dates are all Amazon pre-orders, all supposedly expedited by Pro Support. It will be very interesting if you guys who ordered from B&H, Adorama, etc. get yours around 8/9.

I would have pre'd the lens from BestBuy but has never been listed there to pre, though I

I didn't realize BB did pre's for any of the higher end gear. If I had known that I might have checked. The only good thing about the delay on my shipment is that I'll get to try the lens out before it ships, so if I change my mind I can still cancel my pre-order.

Well I called Allen’s camera whom I’m first on thier preorder list and they had no idea when it was going to arrive. I’m guessing August 8 is not going to happen

Amazon often has weird dates and does weird things....even though they say September they may ship just as early (ie next week) as everyone else says they will. With the Nikon 500PF Amazon went as far as just cancelling everyone's preorders many months after orders were placed because the supply of that lens was so slow in coming in. I believe they actually did that twice to people.

I ordered on the first day from Adorama with Sony Pro "expediting" and it seems to have made no difference whatsoever. Adorama can't/won't give me a firm delivery date. I had to scrap Sony equipment from a planned project and substitute existing Canon units because of the uncertainty.

That is good to know. I'll go ahead and make other plans. I'm 10th on Allen's list.

It is kind of frustrating being so close to the original delivery estimate, especially with them all over Europe already. I too am in the preordered right away from Adorama and used the Sony Pro Support expediting. Curious to see what happens.
