Best time to visit conowingo is last 2 weeks of October and beginning of November, I have good luck finding birds as early as 1st week of October. 95mm is the size. The thread pitch is the angle of the actual threads. Nikon might not be compatible with Sony which might not be compatible with Canon.
I'd already bought a collapsible rubber hood that itself takes the 95mm screw in filter then remembered that different companies use different thread pitches....then the wonder if my purchase will work.

Well, Amazon doesn't appear to be honoring Pro Support member priority shipping. Pre-ordered within first hour, and Amazon just sent me shipping notice that expected delivery date is SEPTEMBER 5th. A month later? I guess on the flip side, I will have had time to play with one at Kando, and can decide if I want to cancel the pre-order and stick with the 100-400GM + TC.

That might have been true 50 or 60 years ago, but pretty well all manufacturers follow the same standard now.

and no one is making a lens cap (al la Don Zeck) for any of the Sony long lenses - the Australian company is pulling out of making lens caps...and my email to Don Zeck went unanswered. Perhaps there is an opportunity for a small start up project here...
The Kirk lens foot looks good; am curious to see what pops up at Amazon or Ebay - perhaps the substitute foot really isn't needed (less is more). I tend to hand-hold this type of lens....or balance it on my SUV door (window). Time will tell.
But I would love a hard lens cap for the 400mm F2.8 GM and this 200-600 zoom!

I had a 95mm lens cap from the Sigma 150-600 C. I had years ago. I will use that on the 200-600 and put away the new Sony cap.
My dealer confirmed the shipping in the US got delayed for a week. I was hoping I would get to play with the new toy this weekend.
