I might even be interested to join you there coming from around Allentown. Maybe a chance to learn how to AF on moving birds with my A7rIII and my 100-400mm GM with at least the 1.4X TC. My closest friend lives in Churchville, so I could combine the trip.

Pretty sure that magnification number is a fluke. While Sony.com (US) gives 0.66, Sony.de (Germany) states 0.20 maximum magnification. The focus distance of 2.4m seems about right. In all the best APS-C magnification of a scale I managed had roughly 80mm top to bottom. Which works out to be about 0.2 magnification.

What’s it like there crowd wise during the week in mid October? I have a production shoot in the Philadelphia area through Wednesday but am tempted to head down there on my way home to the Midwest. Is it better early morning or late afternoon? Thanks for any advice.

Ask Douglas, I have yet to visit. Hopefully Douglas has some knowledge and experience in mid October.

Actually I have been there only 4 or 5 times, even though it's only an hour drive for me. I am not really a big time birder like some here. I think the busiest time is from Nov-Jan. Photographers get there really early to take up the good spots and wait for the light. The parking lot near where the photographers stand has limited parking space but they have a much bigger parking area at the visitor center. They bring people from the center to the dam by shuttle bus. They have food trucks, portable toilets... It's a bit crazy in my opinion. Weekdays are much more relaxing. I met a couple guys who came all the way from Asia to Conowingo with their Canon 800mm just for that. In a good day in a good year, you probably see a few hundred bald eagles in the vicinity, swooping down to catch fish out of the water, fighting for fish in midair, or just sitting around.
Morning is much better! The sun gets behind the tree line 3 or 4 o'clock in the afternoon that time of the year.

I'm not sure what system you used before moving to Sony, but over in Nikon land, people had to wait quite a while (to say the least) until they got their hands on the 500 PF, for instance (esp. those poor Canadians, just ask Geoff). Same with the Tammy 28-75. So, I don't think this is a Sony-specific problem. Besides, and may be that's just me living in a smaller market as opposed to the US, I never had to wait for a lens, assuming I pre-ordered it early.

Can you tell me about another camera brand that delivers all orders on day one? My experience at Canon was the same as Sony. Not a real issue. I waited for the 24mm and now love it and have long forgotten the wait.

Sony's time frames are actually pretty fast compared to the other manufacturers.....I had to wait over a year from announcement to delivery of my Canon 600II....(earthquakes not withstanding )
There are people who ordered Nikon 500PFs in September 2018 just getting delivery now.....D850s took half a year to deliver 1st day preorders.
If Adorama isn't going to honour Sony's priority service then I'd suggest finding another dealer who will. I'm not sure how Sony's system works but I know with Nikon that it is up to the honesty of the dealer to get the lens to the NPS member for whom it shipped out early for...I have heard complaints about dealers not honouring that.

Get a life. Maybe you should handle the logistics involved in distributing a new product worldwide so that every customer can get that product at the same time.

October is not bad especially during the week. Toward the end of Oct weekends start to get busy

Conowingo visit info: Bald Eagles.
Here is my experience from visting last 3 years.
Best time to visit conowingo is last 2 weeks of October and beginning of November, I have good luck finding birds as early as 1st week of October. During the peak season, right around Thanksgiving, if you show up just before the Sunrise, you will get the parking spot, after that you will be lucky to find parking and forced to park at remote parking place which is 1/2 mile away and have bus service, from 7 AM to 3 PM, not sure how often. If you visit after 11.00 AM, you may find parking because many photographer leaves or going out for lunch.
Best place to shoot during the early morning is halfway at the fence or closed to water so you have sun somewhat on side for best possible lighting. Most of the activities are early in morning ( Sunrise), 11.00 AM and from 3.00 PM to sunset. In evening , I like to stay up to 30 minutes after sunset, last 30 minutes has one of the best lighting.
