Actually I think the only one to blame in all of this is Sony itself. No road map equals nearly impossible planning and nearly endless speculation and rumor mongering. It’s been like this for years and it’s really lousy to do their customer base. It’s my biggest compliant with Sony. And it’s one of my only complaints besides my strong belief that the a7r3 was an incremental upgrade since it didn’t give us a denser sensor. Sony releases incredibly strong lens candidates and compelling cameras, and they do it without much warning. The yin and the yang.

Agreed, I don't understand the secrecy about upcoming lens releases. IMO, it makes more sense to tell your customers what is coming and what is planned as well. Maybe they think by keeping the customer in the dark, they're more likely to stick with them versus switching brands if the customer doesn't see a lens they want coming soon?
Will have to dive into the details over lunch if I have a chance. Big question will be does the 200-600 take the 1.4 TC, and price, although I'm guessing around $2k. EDIT: looks like the 1.4TC works on the 200-600...

Maybe it's just as simple as waiting until the likes of DPreview have enough time with the lens to provide a write up on it before officially announcing it. I just don't see all this angst generated by these rumours.

Sony did not bring out a 600 F4 that is not as good as Canon's do not make any assumptions when you know they are not valid judging from one set of images taken by someone you do not even know.
Common sense tells you that the lens will be sharp since when has Sony released a lens that was not a world beater when it comes to primes the last year or two?

OK so apparently from what some of you above have indicated, the 200-600mm lens will work with the TCs. Has anyone in any review compared the sharpness of the 200-600 with the 100-400 GM and also with the 100-400 GM with the 1.4X TC?
