Sony did not bring out a 600 F4 that is not as good as Canon's do not make any assumptions when you know they are not valid judging from one set of images taken by someone you do not even know.

Common sense tells you that the lens will be sharp since when has Sony released a lens that was not a world beater when it comes to primes the last year or two?

Relax. I did say in "THAT" gallery.

I am quite surprised by both that and that it is compatible with both TCs. That is good news especially at the price.

Pre-orders 10am EDT June 13th per Brian Smith.

His blog also confirms both TC's work with 200-600. I'll eat my words now as well. That's a shocker but a pleasant surprise.

At 6.6lbs, it's inline with the latest Canon 600mm F4 and price.

Not too thrill on the images on dpr sample gallery though.

DPR introductory galleries almost always suck for some reason I don't understand.

OK so apparently from what some of you above have indicated, the 200-600mm lens will work with the TCs. Has anyone in any review compared the sharpness of the 200-600 with the 100-400 GM and also with the 100-400 GM with the 1.4X TC?

Also, do we have any filter information for the lens?

I'm always looking to adding more glass to my sony A7III. But this is when I find it difficult letting go of my Fuji system. I have an X-T2 and the 100-400 4.5-5.6. This lens is a 150-600mm FL equivalent with a 4.5-5.6 aperture. I wish Sony would have made this lens 4.5-5.6 also. I bought this lens used for $1,250. Best bang for you buck on the Fuji side. I'm sure in a year this lens will sell for $1,300-$1,500 used here which I believe it will be a great bargain. I just wish for a faster aperture. only a $300 difference between the Fuji and Sony when buying new. Still nice to see more Sony glass.

If Sony would have made this lens f/4.5-5.6 the price likely would have doubled or more along with adding a few pounds of weight.

Awesome news, hopefully in the future I won't be the only Sony shooter when I shoot wildlife. All the concerns about 200-600 not taking teleconverters, being an extending zoom or the 600GM only being a development announcement turned out to be false.

Only thing I can complain about is the relatively long MFD of 4.5m on the 600mm. Now all is needed is Sony putting all their technological power into an A9II and Canon and Nikon should probably feel a bit less safe regarding their market share in sport and wildlife.

Why? Fuji is an APSC camera with a crop factor of 1.5. How different are DOF and S/N ratio if you shoot both wide open at the same SS and print both to equal size? I see no disadvantage for the Sony here.

I bought the panasonic 100-400, with 200-800 equivalent, for $1000. Even better. Except neither panasonic nor fuji have the a9's autofocus...

No, your Fuji lens is equivalent of a full frame 150-600 F6.75-8.4 lens. F5.6 on a full frame sensor receives more than a stop more light than on an aps-c sensor.

What does the 200-600 G weigh?

Kind of disappointed to see the 600 F4 the same as the Canon 600 F4 III which I guess is high praise for Canon to also achieve this weight since Sony has been coming in under the others.

I watched a youtube that said with a 1.4 you are at F11 I do not understand how a 1.4x that loses one stop is not F9 instead of F11. Not that big a difference but I am confused a stop is a stop.

Forget the a9ii. I want a high end apsc.

The Sony is even 2" longer than my Sigma 60-600, due to the internal zoom I guess. I will need a new bag and and a new Arca-Swiss foot, there is always something to complain about.

Boom it takes tcs and it’s internal zoom.

I called internal zoom. And we all sent good vibes for tc. This lens is going to be a system seller for Sony among wildlife shooters, and outdoor sports like surfing!

It's pulling me in Sony's direction. I'm in the process of selling my Nikon gear and picked up a Canon 600mm f/4 II to adapt on the A7r III so I can get a feel for Sony bodies. The 200-600 may place me firmly in the Sony camp.
