coming, nokishita the source!!!

That'd be massively disappointig if true. 600 primes are gargantuan and weigh a ton.
Guess I have to hope the 200-600 accepts tcs or is sharper than the 100-400 with tc.

If this matches the weight of Canon 600III, I guess I will order one and rob a few banks in the meantime...supposedly the 600GM will be development announcement only and not out till next year....lots of time to accumulate the cash...

From having no lens that reaches 600mm, Sony will announce TWO on Monday, huh? That will turn some heads and may get more exodus from other camps. If that rumor turns out to be true, of course .

I'd like a 300 2.8 with apsc for low light. That's what I was waiting for...and a high end aspc. Still hoping this zoom allows a tc... Otherwise, might consider the Olympus 150-400 with 1.25tc next year.

Damn would have preferred a 500 f/4 initially given they have a 600mm zoom coming. I’d expect the 600 f4 to be a teensy bit lighter than Canon’s at say 2.9g, but I also would expect a 500 f/4 to come in at around 2.4kg and that is much more hand-holdable at eye level. With a higher pixel density A9II (could be 36MP) and 1.4x you would have a deadly 700 f/5.6 combo that is still over 300g lighter than the 600 and also even as a 1000 f/8 the A9/A9II would make light work of the AF.

I think the zoom will allow a TC. The A9 can AF and track down to f/16 so an 840 f/9 would not be a problem.

The construction looks possibly to be similar to Canon's new one and the 400/2.8 philosophy, if true

(I think SAR mixed it up in his post)

I hope they try to reduce the front heavyness here, too.

It seems Sony has then wanted to cover as much ground as possible, and then fill in the blanks afterward, that is 200/2, 300/2.8 and 500/4. In the meantime zooms and combinations with TCs will have to be stand-ins as best they can.

Then there are the A-mount 300/2.8 and 500/4 lenses, which can also be stand-ins for E mount equivalents for a shorter while.

I don’t ever put much stick in sar, the persistent a7000 rumors are a good example, but I can’t ever remember nikoshita being wrong. I’ll never be able to afford one but I think it’s awesome a 600 f4 is coming out. I had a feeling a 600 was coming soon as a pro Sony wildlife shooter I’m familiar with shed his a99ii and Minolta 600f4 recently and has gone exclusively to the a9. As for the 200-600 I’m still gonna pre order even though I have the 100-400 with 1.4 tc.

I'm happy for all 20 people who will buy 600 f4 at 14 grand. Now where is 35 1.8G ?

I have just worked out that if I sold all my camera equipment and got the amount I paid for it then I would be able to afford the 600f4,

Should of listened more at school

A portable 600mm f4 (at ~3kg) is the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow for most birders I guess, except the ones with abundant financial resources
I hope to one day own one myself, and from next week on will have one more option

I don't see how a bulky and 3k gram lens is "portable."

I can't wait for the YouTuber's reports/videos on Monday or Tuesday.
Have any of those people ever taken a wildlife shot with anything larger than their 70-200?

Yep, 50 reports on how you'll need a tripod cause it's heavy, it's not F2.8, only useable in mid day light, and it
won't work as a selfie lens on their gimbal.

What else, the lack of a zoom lock, or one that maybe only locks at the shortest length, which even way the
zoom ring and the focus ring are, they'll wish it was the other way, the lens will probably take a 95mm filter,
we be told how expensive that is.

What are the odds that anyone will shoot with any camera other than an a9?
Seeing as this should be touted as their affordable wildlife lens, it should be attached to the a6400.

As funny as these 17 pages of speculation are, the real comedy show starts on Monday.
