OK, I'll keep playing along...
My guess is that it will be a 500 f4 or a 300 f2.8. Having these "journalists" test two copies of a 600 with such different parameters and design constraints would seem to lead to confusion and too much juxtaposition for the average reviewer to handle.

"I had the wrong timezone... oops, uh... wrong day I meant."
I'm still 50/50 we get a 35/1.8 G lens before this 200-600.

The lack of a Nokishita leak over the past two days made me overly suspicious that these rumors weren't correct. But it seemed the SAR guy had good sources. Obviously not
Anyways good news if this is true. Hopefully leaks are more valid if the journalists are all there....forget the NDAs
I'm ready for the fast prime if it is supertele and not tele.
I call BS on SAR saying that Sony made a last minute decision to delay announcement to let journalists have more time with the lenses.

Hmm, either there is a serious announcement by Sony on monday, or SAR can pack its bags and close shop
What fast telephoto prime does Sony need most urgently after the 400GM I wonder...

Page 15 - still no announcement publicized.
My guess is 300 f/2.8. It looks to me like he knew there was going to be an event--that got leaked to him. He didn't know the nature of the event, however. I hope he is right that we hear something early next week, but I don't think he knows. We will just have to wait as we have been.

That is a lens I deeply want, 300 & 420mm in a fast lighter weight package is a killer thing to have in your arsenal.
I think for BIF it is the ticket for sure and with upcoming sensors should be able to crop to 600 with the 1.4x and I may get rid of the 400 2.8 GM. It is kind of an in-betweener if you do not shoot sports. Too short for wildlife and too long for BIF or Zoos and some other at times.

I can say what my Sony dream prime lens was half a year ago, 600mm f5.6 (GM though taking a 1.4TC!!!), but it is not a fast prime, so no use now, and I went Canon anyway...

300/4? Why they don't have one of those already is beyond me...
300/2.8 would be my other guess, and since the rumor is a 'fast' telephoto, that is probably more likely than a 300/4. However, they will probably sell 20x more 300/4 lenses (or more), so commercially, it would probably be more successful.

Since Sony is courting the sports market, a 300f2.8 would be a safe bet. The 200-600 will probably satisfy the wildlife crowd for now. But I personally want to see a high performance crop body.

SAR's coverage is still making me laugh... we're expected to believe...
Sony scheduled this event a few weeks ago. They prepped the NDA, had everyone sign it. Presented the 200-600 to journalists. THEN they decided to extend the NDA over the weekend, never mind everyone had signed a different document. And they luckily got another fast tele prime ready JUST in time to reveal it to journalists. Obviously a few weeks ago when they planned this event, or even yesterday when they signed the NDAs, Sony didn't think they'd have another lens to present.
Apparently Sony can now design and prototype a lens in a couple days or weeks. Should see every missing lens by the end of summer now, right?

I'm not interested in a 300/2.8 for what I shoot but I would be curious to see how lightweight they could make one. Nikon hasn't updated theirs in ages. Canon hasn't since 2011. We have now seen both Sony and Canon significantly drop the weight on the 400/600 with novel designs so I wonder what a 300/2.8 would be like with similar design. What I really want to see though is how lightweight a 500/4 can get.

More likely, it went like this... somebody in Sony marketing discovered that the prototype 200-600 zoom they planned to show to the paid bloggers had disappeared and had been sold on eBay, so they hoped to find another lens "fast" to show them by Monday....

Haha, of course they didnt discover it was missing until after they collected all the NDAs.

Why pack up shop now? I mean, they've been wrong dozens of times (at least) in the last year or two. Hell, just a couple of weeks ago he was 90% sure we'd get that high end APS-C body any day now....the same high end APS-C he's been reporting on for the last ~2 years. And then there's the constant A7SIII rumors, A9II rumors, APS-C lenses, and newfangled and groundbreaking tech that we won't believe too! The hype for the 200-600 made everyone forget the other half dozen things his "reliable sources" told him were coming this year.
Don't get me wrong...I've been saying for a while that the 200-600 (I predicted 500) was overdue and probably coming soon, and with the "leaked" prototype (I believe it's Sony marketing at it's best) it seems like that's finally coming true. The other lens I think will be a 300mm f2.8. f2.8 is technically "fast" relatively speaking and 300mm is a big hole in the lineup. I expect a development announcement for that, to be released by end of year. Then maybe later this year announce (and released in spring) a 600mm f4 to round out everything in time for the summer games.
