Back when I was shooting a 500mm Nikon with the cameo covering, I had an encounter with a police officer. I was in a my car on a dirt road by a marshy area. I had the lens pointed out the car window.
I saw in my side mirror a police car pull up behind me. The officer got out , hand on gun in the holster. With great caution, he approached my side of the card. Not sure what he thought I had ( Maybe a bazooka ) , but I had to show him it was a lens with a camera attached.
So, yes , they can think it is some type of weapon I guess.

The only worry with internal zoom is that combining internal zoom and internal focus may reduce effective fl at close focus, and with certain kinds of wildlife photography you don’t want that. But if it could be done with no side effects, sure!
I have heard though that the 70-200 GM is very good in this regard, and that's also an internal zoom, is it not?

Hype
True.
I saw SAR mod made a comment that he has upcoming A9II rumors that will "drive you crazy"....more hype to come as he is waiting till after this announcement to post those....wouldn't want to overwhelm us, he will need more things to drive traffic after 200-600 hypetrain dies off

Well, a friend of mine who's a Sony ambassador did tell me earlier today (in response to my question about an announcement) that he was "going to the office" later today. I don't think he has advance info, though...if he does it's only hours before something is announced, and / or he's got a watertight NDA. I haven't pressed him on this stuff in the past.

Given SAR has stated the launch event already started and the lens is already in the hands of "journalists" at the event, I'd put money on the lens being announced tomorrow.

Wah wah on any announcement today or for who knows how long...
I’m going to go shoot my 100-400. 🙃
I am going to wait and see if they even announce it how it compares to the 100-400GM with a 1.4x. I do not mind losing 2/3 of a stop with the ISO performance the a7rIII and a9 have and soon to be a7rIV & a9II hopefully. The latter two make up for the 1.4 just from a cropping standpoint alone. Also curious to see how a higher MP a7000 will work on a 100-400GM also.
I think it would be great if the 200-600 G works with a 1.4x but if I am going to haul a tripod out I would just as soon use my Canon 600 F4 and extender. I guess for quick off the cuff stuff it would be nice but how do you end up with a stunning image at 840mm without the rig sitting on a something or a tripod? I do not care how good the IBIS or OSS is that is asking a lot.
I very much like the idea of a 200-600 G but when I think about the above even if it were free would I take it out and use it versus my other lenses? It would have to better the 100-400GM + 1.4x for me to consider it I believe.

One more lens, a fast telephoto prime is coming as well, both that and the 200-600mm to be announced early next week. So we wait yet again.
The lack of a Nokishita leak over the past two days made me overly suspicious that these rumors weren't correct. But it seemed the SAR guy had good sources. Obviously not
Anyways good news if this is true. Hopefully leaks are more valid if the journalists are all there....forget the NDAs
I'm ready for the fast prime if it is supertele and not tele.
I call BS on SAR saying that Sony made a last minute decision to delay announcement to let journalists have more time with the lenses.

There are lots of cool possibilities and some that have not been rumored probably.
15mm GM, a7000, A7sIII, RX1R III, a9II, a7rIV, 200-600 G, 100 1.4 GM, 500 F4, 600 F4, 300 2.8 to mention a few.
If Sony is really bringing out a dozen new lenses in the time period they said I think we will see at least four or five before year end.
