Back when I was shooting a 500mm Nikon with the cameo covering, I had an encounter with a police officer. I was in a my car on a dirt road by a marshy area. I had the lens pointed out the car window.
I saw in my side mirror a police car pull up behind me. The officer got out , hand on gun in the holster. With great caution, he approached my side of the card. Not sure what he thought I had ( Maybe a bazooka ) , but I had to show him it was a lens with a camera attached.
So, yes , they can think it is some type of weapon I guess.

SAR confirming announcement tomorrow. There’s a lot that could and should go right here for Sony.
World’s first first party 200-600 zoom.
Things I’m looking for in order.
Fast AF that works with all MK3 E mount bodies.
High resolution/sharp across frame (pull no punches here)
Takes a 1.4 tc
Internal zoom
PDL (pretty damn light)

I'm surprised there hasn't been a leak of official photos of the lens from Nokishita or the like.
I think Sony has been really tight lipped with their recent releases. I don't recall SAR has gotten anything specific in the last two years until like a day or two days before the official releases. For the most part SAR is just a click bite site pumping out useless headlines like the A7000 in the last two years. I know it's a rumor site but still...

I'll be really, really surprised if it's internal zoom.. that would be huge for a first party 200-600. All the current options are extending zoom as far as I know.

See my page 9 #1 post if you want to know the reasons why I think it’s likely.

Sony always wants to innovate and introducing an internal zoom lens now is a way to show the level of innovation. The GM 100-400mm lens, while nice and optically fine, but the FL and aperture range, make this lens more like any other typical zoom lens of that specs. However, this 200-600 would turn out to be something else, at least I hope. And I am willing to pay more for an internal zoom . We will know in less than 24 hours (4PM London time).

Hi Joshua,
We will have to wait until tomorrow and also wait to hear about the lens, its performance and the capabilites of working with the Sony TCs.
Regardless though, if the lens is as large as we believe that it will be even with the hopes of internal zooming, the lens will undoubtedly be larger than the 100-400mm GM. The 100-400mm GM will undoubtedly pack smaller which will allow for taking for longer trips and packing more easily for air travel.
p.12 #10 · Pre-order: Sony FE 200-600 f5.6-6.3 G OSS ($1,998)
My predictions:
1) The lens is externally zooming
2) The lens can't accept the TCs
3) The IQ will still be excellent even at 600mm but won't be at it's sharpest till f/8.
4) AF will not be as good as 100-400GM but still really good depending on the body you use. Better than adapting any 3rd party similar lens.
5) Because of all those above points the price will be at most $2K USD.
6) I will have a case of GAS for the lens initially but if the above is true won't buy it and just soldier on with 100-400 +/-TCs as required.
7) YouTubers will rave about it no matter how good it really is.
I hope I'm wrong about 1 through 4. If it can take a TC and is internal zoom and is no more $ than 100-400GM then I will strongly consider it.

1 through 5 seem like really good predictions to me. 7 isn't really a prediction it is more like a fact as that is what always happens. I think your prediction for number 6 will be close to my own reaction if 1 through 5 hold.

Seems like a lot of people have taken for granted that a 200-600 G is being announced tomorrow who wants to bet that there is no mention of a 200-600 G tomorrow?

The Sony 1.4x and 2x TCs are themselves not labeled GM nor G, so why should they indefinitely be restricted to be used with GM lenses or any other category?

Given SAR has stated the launch event already started and the lens is already in the hands of "journalists" at the event, I'd put money on the lens being announced tomorrow.

They had to sign a NDA first..... Something big will be announced, and chances are this lens!

I would like to see a GM lens the 40/1.2
It can announce as the second, after the 200-600.
Gm24 + gm40 + gm135 are my dream team...

Like many others in the forum, having followed SAR for a few years now, I do think something will be announced tomorrow. 200-600 is of course at the top of the list, but I also think there may be word about the 500/600 F4.
At some point, I am also very interested to know the origin/circumstances of the leaked 200-600 prototype too 🧐

The only worry with internal zoom is that combining internal zoom and internal focus may reduce effective fl at close focus, and with certain kinds of wildlife photography you don’t want that. But if it could be done with no side effects, sure!

Internal zoom and focus should be easier to seal against the elements, which is also beneficial to wildlife photography. Maybe we can’t have it all, yet.
