Howdy! Anyone out there that's ordered a 400mm 2.8 GM and could share how long from order to receiving the lens? I ordered mine on May 21st (B&H), and I know I'm going to wait quite awhile, just can't seem to find any information at all on ordering to delivery times.
They made an initial batch (I got one of those) now they collect orders before another run. It’s a long time to semi custom made them. This is no consumer item. They have to take a lot of individual time for a $12K lens with three fluorite lenses (fluorite is grown like a crystal).
There is one readily available on that big auction site. This is only FYI and not an endorsement nor recommendation to buy from the seller nor from that site.

I don't have any knowledge of the seller, and like Joshua, will not endorse nor recommend the seller of the lens. But, you will have to consider for yourself how much time you are willing to wait and the price that you are willing to pay. The on-line price for the auction site is $701 more than B&H or Adorama, or the larger stores are selling the lens and at least shipped to my home the price is $37.87 (free shipping from B&H). But, the lens is available now.
Teddy, if you are on the Sony Imaging Pro program, the waiting time will be significantly shorter. But I am not sure how short. By the way, there are two lenses offered for sale on the B&S forum here. You can do the search and find them. Again, I don't know the seller or sellers and do not have any relation with any whatsoever.

Rich,
That price is still better or lower than the price asked by a seller on the B&S forum here .

Hi Joshua,
Thanks for that heads up and the price does seem a bit high here on the B&S boards. Especially when we have a well known FM member that has now bought and sold 2 of these lenses (at least both sold on the boards for less than new).
Thanks! Oh how I wish I could join; Being retired, I don't make the majority of my money from taking photos (I wish!), so that would make me ineligible. I had my hopes up there for a moment haha
With this much dinero, I don't think I can trust a third party, non-Sony licensed place, but thanks for letting me know either way! Guess I just have to be patient and use the 100-400GM in the meantime.

Your best bet is to contact Mitesh here on this site. Somehow, he's managed to get his hands on 2 and has sold both here too (at a very fair price and in pristine condition). I am the lucky owner of one of those. I'm not sure who he knows, but he must have some connection to Sony somewhere. :-)

Oooo, secret of the pros! I like it. When July rolls around, if I don't have the lens, I might just have to do that.

I had ordered one with two largest online store and got no news for a month. Walked in a local store and luckily brought one home a day after.

Oh man you lucky guy! Both the big stores in Seattle/Portland are saying pre-order just like B&H. Glazer's (Seattle) told me they can only do pre-orders.
