Fred,
Thanks for the info. Does adding the teleconverter increase magnification or just the working distance from your subject?

Shhhhh..... this lens was one of the best kept secrets for Sony, please don’t spoil it now

I thought there are better lenses in Sony mount?
This one is available in every mount out there.
Do you mean only the metal bayonet part or is it available now in mounts with AF systems?

I totally agree with you. I need to give it a go on my new A7RIV. These were the last shots taken with my A7RIII

EBH
It's a MF lens without EXIF transmission (Sony FE version)
What I meant is that the FE 1.4x teleconverter's protruding front element fits this lens without any issues. (even at infinity distance)

Most interesting. I have the Canon one. will try the Canon teleconverters with lens on
the Canon 5DSR.
Long time Canon EF user. tried Sony cameras with native FE lenses. spent
endless hours (it seemed like) trying to get used to Sony. No success.
I am a septuagenarian. Maybe you can't teach old dogs new tricks. sold all Sony.
Luckily kept all of the my Canon EF lenses and Canon cameras (going back to 5D2).
Bought Canon R and RP cameras plus all rf lenses except 85 mm and 24-105 stm.
Rf lenses are superior to their EF counterparts.
Amazing results. EF lenses work much better with Canon R. Canon R EVF is
better than Canon SDLR OVF! better color and resolution in my opinion.
Only problem is that Laowa 100 2X is recognized as APS-C by the Canon R.
Reduces maxium resolution size to 12 megapixels.
Canon full-frame lenses like 100 mm L macro lens experience no such
problem.
Wrote Venus Optics people in Hong Kong. No reply after more than two months.
will email them again.
Laowa 100 2X was better than any Canon macro lens I have used. Stiffer
focus makes me focus more carefully. Like that I can adjust aperture electronically
and that it has EXIF data. IQ was excellent.
Currently do macro photography with Canon R and Canon 100 mm EF lens.
I know there's a lot of competition these days with all the new lens releases and large selection of legacy glass. But I feel this lens should be more popular than it appears to be (to me).

Totally agree. It seems not many are willing to give it a try. The only reason I sold mine is get the new smaller 65mm as its easier to handhold at greater magnifications.

Based on the optics, I agree.
I owned the lens for a short while but didn’t shoot much with it. What bugged me a bit was the front filter, which seemed like an afterthought, necessary to keep dust from flowing into the lens. Which I also thought about every time I focused it.
I’ve been tempted to repurchase it several times, and it’s priced quite well, but also keep thinking about the CV 110, which I also owned, and miss.
No doubt the Laowa punches well above its price point.
Did I mention that screw-on front filter that feels like someone trying to fix a design flaw that they only caught after it went into production ?
Yeah, there’s that.
I also own the 150mm Irix, which I find to be excellent, but I think a 100ish mm is a nice alternative to that FL to have.
I almost hit the buy button on this one, more than once, tonight, so that means I need to sleep on it. 😄

Thanksfully they fixed the front filter issue with the 65mm F2.8 APO 2x Macro. Fantastic lens in every aspect. It is basically a mini 100mm F2.8 with a much better focus throw.

Im thrilled they fixed the focus throw. The size and focus throw were my only real complaints with this lens.
