Great photos, I find the Tamrons rendering just fine btw. Can you tell us the shutter speed you used for these shots? Or better yet at what ss are you comfortable hand holding the Tamron for photos like this?
Thank you! - I was at 2.8 w/ ISO 250 and SS 1/320 w/A7RV - mostly trying to keep the flash (2 AD200s key and fill) from becoming seen - going for an airy ambient style with an undefined BG.
I haven't pushed handheld SS to the low threshold at the zoom end, but expect the A7RV with this lens will fare pretty well. Age/camera weight/shaky hands shooting at the long end hand held are what precipitated my move from the Sony GM Lens - so I'm not the best one to ask. I need a tripod or some kind of anchor at 180/200mm+ even with faster SS and a lighter rig - I don't trust myself (and for client work I want to be very cautious)! Younger shooters will be a lot more stable than I.

Thank you for your reply. So you used flash and the best complement I can give you is that as an owner of a pair of AD 200’s myself, your 3 portrait photos are lighted perfectly and do not look like flash was used. Mission accomplished!
Understand about the use of tripod as we get older…. I became a “senior citizen” a few years ago. With my Sony gear I am a prime guy, until this year I had 8 primes and the 100-400 GM being the only zoom. The GM zoom and the Batis 85 and 135 are my longest lenses and all have lens OIS to go along with the (mediocre) IBIS in the A7RIV. The lens OIS is a crutch I rely upon when handholding, as it does improve on the IBIS by 1-1/2 stops or so with these telephoto lenses. BTW, the A7RV IBIS has been improved by a stop or so over the A7RIV, according to those who actually tested it, so you might find it more useful.

From my recent trip to Morocco - Mint tea is drank a lot in Morocco and mostly with plenty of sugar. This Berber man was pouring our welcoming mint tea inside a hospitality tent…

Haven't posted on this thread before. In addition to being my favorite focal length for shooting landscapes in between making turns, I love an 85mm prime for taking those spontaneous portraits. Here's one of my friend Tristan taken during one of the 35 storms we experienced during this past winter at Powder Mountain in Utah. He's a Canon shooter, but such a good photographer I don't hold it against him.
For those of you who snowboard, look at the snow loading on his beard. You can immediately tell he rides regular. And that smile? All of us were sporting that permagrin all winter long. It just got deeper and more epic with every passing storm. I feel this portrait captures that moment of joy all of us experienced in between runs anticipating the next journey through the untracked deep white room.

I usually only leave the house without a camera to go mountain biking or grocery shopping. I should probably reconsider my habit of the latter.
Anyway, June is LGBT Pride month and our town had a "Loud and Proud" party at the Griffin Museum of Photography last night. I had my camera and in addition to being conscripted into taking some event photos (without a flash because I wasn't planning to shoot the event), my wife and I won one of the raffle prizes. She was delighted to have won some coffee. When I got home, my phone indicated I needed to finish up paying for my raffle tickets. I did that, checked Venmo and whoops! I paid the event organizers twice. They are a great local non-profit, and the photo is priceless. Totally worth the double donation!

Can't find the Sigma 85mm image thread. Even though the focus plane is too shallow, I still like this one. The detail on the pups wispy hair and the smile do it for me.

My first time doing beauty portraiture. Taken at a workshop hosted by Sony European Imaging Creator Yolanda Kingdon during this year’s Wales and West Photography show.
Lighting for this was with x3 Rotolight AEOS2 Pros all diffused.

Maybe wait just a little bit to see if they announce 85GM 1.2. If they add 4 XD motors to it and it focuses like 50GM 1.2 or 135GM - that will tear the 85mm portrait market apart.
