Here is a an interesting review of the V2 G9 update with a different result than I had, so I look forward to my next test of the update using the 100-400.

Some really ridiculous examples there. Most cameras in the last ten years could have taken those shots. Since other parts of the subjects are also in focus, those are certainly not proof that the camera grabbed focus on the eyes only.

The G9 has animal detect AF ... not animal-eye AF. The E-M1X, on the other hand, can detect trains and boats and planes.

Whatever. I have read somewhere that the autofocus algorithm tries to focus on the eyes where possible, and it certainly has done here.

Animal detect AF or animal-eye AF, pretty well any camera without either of those would have been capable of focusing on any of those subjects.

Brings it down almost to the Canadian price.

Still not tempted to get one. I am holding out for the E-M1 Mk III - which I am hoping will be a very significant improvement over the Mk II. I hope they will release this about the same time as the 150-400 PRO lens.

A couple from a family visit to Disney World in November. These from the new Galaxy's Edge. The first image is stacked & averaged from a burst series to eliminate noise, the remaining two are from (5) exposure brackets each.

A flower shot from the summer of 2018... as I find myself thinking of getting a G9 again...

@ Molson - can I ask what you're mainly shooting now? System, most used lenses?

Interests me because I picked up a G9 earlier this year, along with an 8-18 & 35-100/2.8II (additions to older Panasonic lenses still on hand). I also have a Sony kit based on an A7RIII & lenses.

I very much like the G9, in spite of the fact that it's neither smaller nor lighter than the Sony body. The files are good, but nowhere nearly as robust for editing as those from the Sony 42mp sensor.

Nonetheless, I have been enjoying my foray back into m43.

I have an A7R III, A9, and A7 III along with a bunch of lenses. I also still have some superb Fuji XF lenses that no one seems interested in buying, but no more Fuji bodies.

While the image quality from the Sony sensors is unmatched by anything except medium format, and the A9 focusing is virtually unbeatable, I just have a hard time getting to like the Sony cameras. The G9 was a much more enjoyable camera to use, as was my Fuji X-H1. If I never had to shoot in low light, I'm sure I would have kept one of those two cameras.

Thanks for the reply.

I resemble that remark . . . I agree, the G9 is more satisfying, more fun to shoot with compared to my A7RIII. I might update to an A7RIV if I thought it would completely close that gap, not sure that will be the case.

And there is the delta with the larger, heavier lenses to take into consideration. Close to home, no issue. But for travel, it makes a difference.

And yes, low light, and I would add having the sensor resolution from which to make larger prints. I'm pushing file pixels around a bit more than some people, and the smaller files just don't have the same malleability as the higher res Sony files.

The G9 is without a doubt the most enjoyable digital camera I've used together with the Nikon D700. Other than that the only thing that beats them is the Olympus OM1 and the Nikon FM2 for pure enjoyment.

The G9 is just superb in all it's menus, dials, settings, responsiveness and usability.

For usability it is really difficult to beat m43. I found both the E-M1 and G9 much more logical to control. Fuji gives you 3 ways to do the same thing. Sony gives you one way but you may have to program it to a custom button. The G9 just has everything right there at your finger tips (literally). The little top LCD is one of the main reasons I like the ergomonics of the G9 and Fuji X-H1. It is also way more comfortable to hold with heavy glass than Sony.

I also very much like my G9, and about the only part of it that frustrates me is the lag in turning on and reviewing images. I’m using the fastest Sony and Lexar 300mb/s cards but these still a second or so delay before it decides to either turn on, or when reviewing images from the live view screen. When in review mode, going from image to image is instant so I really don’t understand it ?

The same cards in my Olympus bodies are lightning fast. Anyone else have the same issue.

Yes same thing here, not sure why but it's nothing that really bothers me like that, I rarely need to review my images that quickly and have no problem waiting a second or two. It's more important for me that it's fast when reviewing the images.

Having said that, of course it would be nice if getting to the review page was just as instant

Try [Custom] > [Monitor/Display] > [Auto Review] > [Playback Operation Priority] to [ON].

That made a huge difference for me. I noticed the auto review would instantly pop up if enabled so clearly the G9 can do it fast. I have all the [Duration] times set to [Off] but [Playback Operation Priority] to [ON] and I now get instant playback when pushing either the playback button or my custom playback button [left dial].

But what are you selling?

Besides Sony gear.
