Anyone sell or return this lens in favor of the less expensive z 24-70/120 options?
I am debating whether to keep it or get the 24-120 f/4 or 24-70 f/4 for much less $.
Thanks in advance.
You can get an excellent condition 24-70 F4 S lens on the buy and sell forums for $400 dollars all day long. I would get that and see if it meets your needs - and if it does, you just saved a boat load of money. Otherwise, sell it for $400 and get the 24-70 f2.8.
I bought a 24-70 F4 S and didn't feel the need to get the 2.8.

That question was from many months ago
I returned my f/2.8, switched fully to Sony, missed Nikon
and now have mostly Sony but also a z6ii, z 50 f/1.2 S and z 24-70mm f/2.8 S. 😉 I am sure you are right .. f/4 will work and for much less $$$, but I like the f/2.8 for shooting in lower light and the better background blur ability for portraits.

Yes - we all need to separate our needs from our wants. As long as you are willing to pay the extra money and are going to enjoy it, life is short get what suites you best and makes you enjoy photography the most. I was just saying that if you don't know what would be best for your needs, you can get a used 24-70 F4 S try it for a few months and flip it at no cost. You might be surprised and just keep the F4 !!!
I was all set to get the 24-70 F2.8 S - but then I tried the 24-70 F4 S and the weight and size difference and the type of photography I do (mostly in the F8 - F11 range on a tripod), I felt the trade offs (and the price!) weren't worth it for me.
But I do still want the 24-70 f2.8 S Just can't bring my self to fork over the cash !
For a bit of fun I did a 15 vertical shot Panorama of Sydney Harbour not really expecting it to work out as there are many boats on the water which normall has meant issues with stitching, especially with their wakes. However, PTGui has a done a great job and there doesn't seem to be any stitching errors that I could see. This was taken from the South Pylon which is the only pylon that has a viewing area.
This is a reduced size so as to fit on the 3840 x 2160 UHD screen vertically from a 29648 x 7422 pixel image. Best to view by clicking on image or see the original here: https://pbase.com/image/173281504 and clicking on "original" under the image.

That looks great Lance! Not only are there boats, but a plane.
Beautifully done.
Phil
Thank you very much, Phil. Much appreciated!
Actually, there are 2 planes but the second (an airliner from the airport) is waaay off in the distance above the buildings on the right. The original image, which is posted on my PBase photo hosting site, can be displayed much larger than here as this site seems to be limited to the width of the UHD screen which is 3840 pixels whereas you can see the original 7590 x 1900 pixel image over at PBase. On the original 29648 x 7422 pixel (220Mp) image, but the plane cen be very easily seen! As you would expect, the level of detail is idiotic on a 220Mp image.
Zion National Park winter sunset. The 24-70/2.8 is just superb. I sold it and switched to the 24-120 for the extra range which is useful for me, but miss that special something the 24-70 had.

Even in the age of the Z 24-120/4, the f/2.8 24-70 remains a stunning lens and great choice for a broad range of work, obviously when the larger aperture is needed, but even at more mundane diaphragm settings.
