Congrats on winning Featured Thread! No thread in recent memory has deserved it more.
I’ll add Diane Arbus to your list.
Bruce Davidson spent a day with my class at Art Center (Annie Leibovitz visited us too). I got to meet Mary Ellen Mark at a booksellers mart in Atlanta. Sylvester Stallone had just published a book and the publisher hired me to shoot him signing books. Mary Ellen Mark was there working on a project. She had her Leica with one lens and a few rolls of film, nothing else.
Thank you so much. Yes totally agree about Arbus. What a talent. Photography can be a wonderful passport into other worlds. You sometimes get to be in places you might never be in or like your example you get to meet so many interesting and talented people you might never have met otherwise.
I had a chance to meet Davidson when he was just about finished with Subway. He spoke at the Art Institute of Chicago and my class went to see him speak. I also got to meet Harry Callahan. One of my professors received his MFA from RISD and they remained friends so I got to chat with Callahan for a while.
Mary Ellen Mark is another one of my favorites. I'll bet she was very interesting to talk with. I am also so interested in the creative process and really enjoy having those conversations. I alway learn something.
Here is the front of the official invitation. The opening is May 2 and is mentioned on the back.
