Living in an earthen den for about 4 months, a mother polar bear gives birth and nurses her cubs. She will lose a good portion of her body weight and won't eat anything substantial until she reaches the sea ice and can hunt seals. In the meantime she will nurse her cubs. When she emerges from the den she is filthy and will roll in the snow to clean herself off. Over a period of days she will clean up her act and no longer be a dirty bear.
Exceptional!! I always enjoy a set where a bit of education takes place, especially when the pictures are decent. These images are so better than decent that they are indecent!
Fantastic documentation of the dirty mom and then you add the cute cubs into the mix. A terrific set Eric. Nine makes me wonder if the cubs ran up to you and licked you till you could not bear it any more.
Tom
Thanks Tom, we got quite lucky to find an active den and then it just took patience

Thanks so much my friend for you most generous comment and support.....it was very special to see something like this which is quite different than those shots after mom's coat has been to the dry cleaner

Thanks Morris....I did actually wonder just how close the cubs would come....it looks like they are right on top of us but in reality they were very very far away
