Lets just go directly to the Center crops first as I see it progress nicely and what I did expect. As you can see 1.4 is really not bad at all but I do think it will show some veiling flare as I saw in last nights test. But its at its best at F2.8 although F2 looks very good. Im not surprised by this at all. Every 1.4 lens i have run across does exactly the same thing nice at 1.4 but far better at 1.8 or F2. For the Pixel peeper maybe F2.8
Lets jump to upper left and let me say I expect better results in full sun for sure but this does look promising. I skipped F2 as no difference but when it hit F2.8 I see a nice jump. At F5.6 its really nice at F8 looks like optimum and at F11 not shown I see diffraction. So reality is not a heck a lot different than say a CV 28, Cv 35 1.7, lets throw some Zeiss lenses in the pile as well but better than the Sony 28mm F2. Im actually pleasantly surprised given this is a Leica M mount on a Sony sensor. Its not bad at all. Plus once I test it under full sun these apertures may go up. Im in full rain here
It's interesting you didn't detect any difference focusing on the corners. Did you get one optimized for the Sony?
Your copy seems to do well at f/8, so it may not be a bad choice for landscapes. I wish it had similar sunstar to Loxia or CV but that's not easy to replicate.
Rear element does unscrew. Hmmm just like a bunch of CV lenses but it stopped at the end of the rotation. Did not want to force it. Im wondering if I can use a PCX on this then. It may have shims

Yea i saw very little difference Fred. It seems to have some FC but not a lot I guess.
I will do a sunstar test at some point.
I also want to try focusing stopped down for each aperture see if there is any focus shift.
As far as a landscape lens, that's something I was not expecting it to be but it looks like you can. Funny thing is its acting like a lot of CV and Zeiss M mount glass but the corners i was expecting worse but even at F5.6 is darn nice
Well after two trips up to Cave Creek I could only pull off a infinity test due to weather. Big Bronco was loaded with cars by the time the weather cleared. Ill get it I promise
So I set this up and focused at 1.4 than I went over to upper left and tried to focus at 1.4 and given the astigmatism its really hard to focus there at 1.4. My CV 40 same thing. So I tried at F2 and really given what you will see here at 1.4 where it is pretty ghostly looking. Which in a way is kind of cool but really F2 really does improve things.
Let me just show the 1.4 crops to give you a idea here. Im focused on that Peak roof building.
So here is F2 and pay attention to the on center as that did improve a lot. From me to you folks this lens is a F2 lens at least thats what im going to think shooting it. Is this unusual, not really as we have seen this in other lenses. Now remember this is the Leica M setup not the Sony FE plus model which I still have question marks on and we will see what Bastian comes up with but this will effect the corners more than anything. Im also not see a glaring mid zone issue but I just started to look. Back to focusing on the corners and on center at F2 I did not see much difference at all. Extremely slight. Here I was focused wide open on building
