Beautiful set once again Rob....I enjoyed all of them, especially the Volcano male at the end and the quetzal and road-side hawk.
Have you decided to cancel the 600III order? I'm glad I didn't lead you down the wrong path when I gave my arguments for the 400III as a good (even better?) alternative

Thanks Geoff. As far as the 600mm, we are undecided. Amy really likes the new 400mm so we do not think 2 of them is the way to go. If she decides to stick with the 400mm DO then I may cancel the 600mm. As of right now it is on order still. I am really liking the 400mm Mk III and would not hesitate to tell someone to go that way vs the 600mm. I really do not do a ton at 1200mm, that would be a factor too. Never thought I would never think that the way to go would be with the 400mm over the 600mm but because of the results with the extenders I am very pleased. The overall smaller footprint is a bonus too. I may even cancel the 600mm now and get it at a later date as we do not have any pending trips.
Rob, your images from CR rock! The quetzal, red-headed barbet and especially the trogon in flight are my top picks. I kept on going back to the exquisite trogon image.... it is just awesome. YGMV!
These are fabulous, Rob! That kit is sure working for you, but these gorgeous subjects help too. Terrific detail and sharpness, and a great variety of subjects. You've got my vote.
Your images are superb! The detail and color are beautiful. The barbet, the antshrike, the kingfisher, etc etc, are as good as they get. I don't know whether these images have been cropped but they leave the impression that there is not much cropping, which is a surprise for a 400mm lens. Excellent results and it is obvious that your skill is the key factor in the beauty of these images.

Thanks Dave. Most of them I am using the extenders. The double Violetear picture I used the strait 400mm. The barbet, the antshrike and the kingfisher you mentioned are with the 2x extender. I am not good enough to get close enough to use a 400mm on those kingfishers, they are tough.
