p.1 #1 · Should i sell my a7iii and switch over to Fujifilm xT3???

I am a noob when it comes to photography, i do it as a hobby so very far from a professional. What i currently shoot is family, portraits, sneakers, and landscapes whenever i travel. I either keep the pictures for myself or post them on Instagram. I would like to start to print.
Was even considering doing real estate photography for extra money
Now i love the color that come out of a Fujifilm camera atleast from what I’ve seen. Just looks very raw and authentic (in my opinion)

I have enjoyed the a7iii but i find lenses to be expensive AF and for that reason I’m wondering if i should sell my Sony and switch to Fujifilm. I think that way i can get more lenses that can fit everything i want to shoot n also not break my pockets.

What do you guys think? I’m trying to get the most out of the money so I’m a little lost as to what would be my best move

To get the most out of your money, the best move is probably to just buy an adapter for your Sony and pick up some old (and cheap) manual focus lenses.

What lenses do you shoot with most? That's the most important aspect before we can give direction. Also what sort of lenses do you want to buy? Fuji's selection is more limited than other mounts, however at the same time it's actually designed rather than chosen via the Spagetti at the wall method like Sony's body & lens lineup, so there's very few real gaps in Fuji's line despite the overall smaller selection. For example, Sony still lacks a mid-speed 35mm-e in FE mount unlike Fuji.

I agree on Sony colour. Over the last year I went D800->A7II->XT-1 and while I found the D800 to produce excellent colour, I can't really say the same from Sony without heavy processing. I'm primarily a cityscape/landscape photographer so blues/greens are what I care about the most.

Sony has some utter gems in their lens line for reasonably low money. The FE 28/2, 50/1.8 and 85/1.8 in particular (the FE 50/2.8 Macro is pretty snazzy as well). The comparable Fuji lenses are actually more expensive in the case of the first two (being the 18/2 and the 35/2), although MUCH better built and with much better AF than the FE50/1.8.

One can build a very competent Sony kit by combining the FE lenses and manual focus lenses for a similar budget to Fuji. That said, if you need speed, then Fuji gets cheaper fast, the G and GM lenses are quite spendy, same thing goes if you want milt telephoto zooms (not sure who at Sony thought the 70-300G was worth what they charge, it's no match for Nikon's 70-300E, which is half the cost, the G should have been $500 in a plastic barrel and FE branded)

Note that for portrait/family shooting Sony's Eye AF is massively better than anyone else's. Fuji's is competent, but no match for the Sony. If you use that feature a lot, the A7III is the way to go.

I currently have the kit lens that is very trash
I purchased the 50 1.8 for cheap since like i said I’m broke lol
I recently purchased the Tamron 28-78 used
And been on the hunt for the 85 1.8 and the 16/35 f4 used at a good price and i think i would be set with those lenses without needing to purchase anymore.

I don’t see myself getting one of those telephoto lenses or g master lens unless i was to start making money off photography which isn’t likely.

I would like to comment your last statement...
To me, skin tones are way more important, than every millisecond of AF speed.
X-T3 is good enough in AF department, and skin tones are unmatched, especially from Sony (owed a7ii, and a7rii).
I just did some shots with t3 of my 4.5 year old grand twins, and I can't stop looking into those images, how beautiful they are.

Why not the cheaper XT30 with 18-55 for family, travel and 1 or 2 additional primes when you need them.

Then I'd suggest staying with the Sony. Of those lenses, the Fuji equivalents are going to be largely more money, only the 16-35 is more expensive than the equivalent Fuji lens (the 10-24 OIS).

The equivalent Fuji lineup would be:

35/2 ($399 vs $223 for the Sony)
16-55/2.8 ($899 vs $879 for the Tamron)
56/1.2 (the 50/2 could be an alternative, but is noticeably shorter than an 85 or the 85-equivalent 56mm).($749 vs $573 for the Sony, Fuji 50/2 option would be $449)
10-24/4 OIS ($749 vs $1248 for the Sony).

So while there is some savings to be had, it's entirely a result of the 16-35's high price in comparison to the 10-24, otherwise all the Sony mount options are cheaper unless you go for the 50/2 over the 56/1.2 as the portrait prime, at which point the non-UWA pricing is a wash.

Now what does the Fuji get you otherwise. First off if you go with the F2's, your basic kit is all weather sealed except the 10-24, the primes are significantly smaller and better built than the plastic FE's, the handling is better (IMHO). The X-T3 also has a comparable finder to the A7RIII, better than the A7III's. The X-T30 is inferior to the A7III in finder (same display, but less magnification)

What do you give up? Largely battery life. Fuji is not nearly as good as the 3rd gen A7's in battery life, plus they still are using a much smaller battery.

The wash is the Fuji lenses tend to maintain value more than the FE's on the used market. That's an upside when selling, but a downside when buying.

What lenses do you own currently with your Sony A73?

If you appreciate very nice colours straight out of camera the Fuji world is quite remarkable.

The Fuji X-t30 was recently announced. This camera may suite your needs for portability and very similar performance of the X-t3.

These kinds of questions are quite difficult to answer. Until you actually borrow/rent a fuji you will not fully get a feel of a system. Even that short duration of renting is possibly not enough time.

If you are seeking high iso performance the A73 is very good. The colours from Sony is definitely different compared to Fuji. The internet world seems to try to debunk colours between camera makes. I will say between my Canon, Fuji and Sony gear they all have a totally different feel when post processing in LR.

We do not fully know your style of photography. I own a variety of lenses but for a versatile combo the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 can be extremely versatile.

If you feel you are a prime shooter the Fuji world has a large variety of high quality glass.

Only real suggestion is to rent/borrow and decide from there.

I would look at 3rd party or used lenses. Also step up your post processing game if you can’t quite get the look you want. You can post images of what you have issues with for more clarity.

I think the switch is ultimately a zero sum sidegrade. Unless there are very specific things you want that the Fuji has a large advantage with, I would just stick with what you have.

Even if you decide to moveto fuji, get a cheaper camera like x-t30 or x-e3 and better lenses. If you stay with sony, get a7ii and better sony lenses.

+1 with an additional thought. I don't think you mentioned your workflow preferences. If shooting jpg gives you all you need - and it might given that you're shooting primarily for web use - there's an advantage to shooting Fuji jpgs versus Sony. But otherwise I agree with what others suggest: spend on good glass rather than flipping bodies.

XT3 is one nice camera but then you mentioned funds tight so that's why I suggested XT-30. It is smaller, much cheaper. same processor, similar AF (maybe same, I don't know). You can pick one with a f2 prime for $999 (35mm f2) or the $1050 depending on which prime (23mm f2 or the 50mm f2).

I was a canon user. Got Fuji XT1 about 4-5 yrs ago and liked it very much. Then Fuji came with their MF and finally ditched my Canon. Could have got Sony (cheaper compared to Fuji GF) but never liked their cameras. Maybe also check out the newer Canon/Nikon offerings to see what they have. It is lot of choices these days.
