How's the vignette with the tamron 17-28 when using standard filters?

Or anyone else who knows for that matter.

If you use one filter it is ok. But I have tried 2 (ND plus pola) and the corners are black

That's a little disappointing considering Tamron designed it for standard filters.

I don't know of really any ultra wides that readily take stacked filters without vignetting at the wide end.

Did you use thin or normal filters for this image?

My Sony 16-35 vignettes badly at 16mm with two filters.

I think they are normal, but the pola is thicker

But I might not have been clear: I meant two filters TOGETHER

With one only it works normally

Can you think of a lens that doesn’t vignettes when stacking 2 NDs + 1 Pola?
You have used Zony as well as this one...which one vignettes lesser?

Why do you need 2 ND filters?

If you are stacking 3 filters on any lens then screw on filters are not the right tool.

You need a system like the flat Lee filter system for that kind of work.

Thee filter stacks are not that unusual.

1- ND filter for the entire scene to control shutter speed, maybe water effects.

2- Grad ND to control big dynamic range issues.

3- Polarizers to control glare.

This is a common and useful setup.

Why will i use 2 ND’s? Well, because i have a 2 stop and a 3 stop ND separately.

BTW: For those thinking about using the Lee Seven5 or Lee 85, the Tamron 17-28mm will vignette before 20mm. So, a full Lee 100 holder will be needed for this lens.

I'd get another stronger ND filter like a 10 stop. The more glass you put infront of the lens, the more your image quality will degrade. I can't imagine there are any filters out there that when stacked three deep would not severely vignette on wide lenses.

The Tamron has a 67mm filter thread. The largest diameter lens I have has a 77mm thread diameter. All of my circular filters are 85mm. I use a step up rings so all of my lenses can use the 85mm filters. This means I only need to own one set of filters, and can stack them within reason with no vignetting. It is the closest I can get to a 100mm flat filter set, but stay smaller and simpler to use.

Thanks i have to try this again...last time i tried this i remember step ring itself caused the vignette.

At the moment the largest filters I own are 67mm. I occasionaly stack my 10-stop ND with my Circular polarizer. This is why I asked about using the filters. I also own a 3-stop ND + CP combination filter which is really convenient.

I just confirmed that at wider than 20mm, and wide open this lens will vignette slightly with even 1 screw in filter. So, it looks like to use filters with this lens I am going to have to use my 100mm square Lee filter system.

I never had any issues at the wide end with a slim polarizer. You do need thin filters, but it works fine with the thin ones.

Shoot a pure white image at 17mm and f2.8 and compared to no filter, I think you will see some vignetting even with a thin ND filter let alone a polarizer.

Can you elaborate on that trick of using bigger filter size...does it help with stacking? You can try and see if the vignette goes away with 1 ND and then 2 ND...
As i said when i tried this i got vignette from step up ring..
