Wow the colors in your second shot are so dreamy. Love the processing on it!

Some from this morning. In the deer photo, you can see the sort of double ring that happens in specular highlights in the bokeh. Definitely the least attractive part of the out of focus areas, though other than that I think the rendering looks decent. I'm really enjoying this lens overall. I tested coma a bit this morning too, and it looks quite good there (though of course edge sharpness isn't as good as stopped down, but it's not bad).

For coma, here's the same framing as the last shot, but at f/2.8 instead of f/8...100% crop of the edge at f/2.8:

I'm really enjoying the lens as well. I took it on a family trip with the CV40 last week and used each about 50/50. The Tamron took some great wide angle portraits and made up for the AF that the CV lacks. I'll post some shots in the coming days. In the meantime, here's one from the prior week:

I broke down and ordered one last week. I also broke down and bought a 24-105 for a two lens convenience zoom kit.

The 17-28 feels like a good pairing with the 24-105 and just enough overlap for my needs and it's easy enough to throw my cv15 in my pocket if I need wider.

I put my order in with BH a week ago Monday. I wonder how long the wait will be.

Gosh darn it. I just realized that everything I took this morning was in APS-C crop mode. I thought things felt rather tight for the focal length this morning, but it was 6 AM...brain not functioning properly. I had changed the camera to APS-C mode to test something out for another FMer and never changed it back.

Well, it performs well in 10MP APS mode, but not too many lenses wouldn't.

Ha, ha, I feel your pain. Went through the Virgin Narrows a couple years ago, during peak light, with crop mode on, and didn't notice until I was processing after the fact.

I see that it has an exceptional yield, but as a possessor also of 28/70 f 2.8, I find a contrast a little too strong, being a passionate leica, I would like to ascertain if this contrast does not cancel those magical atmospheres of dawn and sunsets for example, where I want to enjoy the slightest nuances of color. A less contrasted objective can be corrected in post production, while the opposite is not possible.
Of course it is also a matter of taste ... what do you think?

I understand what you are saying as I enjoy my Leica lenses for those very reasons. But the closest thing you are trying to compare this 800 dollar lens to is the $5500 16-21 WATE.

Had a chance to take the lens out to Disneyland the past weekend and it's first real use since buying. Just like the 28-75, Tamron has another winner on it's hands. I really enjoyed using it and while I thought 17mm wouldn't be wide enough, it was perfect for my needs. If I wanted wider, I used my 12mm fisheye.

Long thread, I promise I'll read. Question is how it compares at 18 with batis and 21 with loxia? Sharpness and colour is the concern, I suppose sunstars from loxia are better. Many thanks.

A couple test shots at the local forest grove. Camera JPEGs as I knew I'd be too lazy to post-process but the condition were probably demanding for raw and I was also experimenting with how low a shutter-speed I could hand-hold on some pics.

Anyway, this lens has a lot of "bite" in many scenes - reminds me of the Contax G 90 sometimes.

But I think my favorite thing is still the form-factor, very portable and really good enough unless you want ultimate IQ. Sure beats the ZA 16-35 that I did like. Sold my ZA 16-35/4 and Laowa 15/2 and have no regrets.

I am not a big fan of the bokeh close-up, and I don't mind busy Zeiss bokeh. Don't know, this is structured but worse.

Anyone gone from Batis 18 to this lens?

I am very happy with Batis 18 weight, IQ, volume and weather sealing for my occasional UWA use but tempted to swap 90g weight and 19mm in length (may actually be lower volume than the rotund B18) for the extra range if there isn’t much IQ difference at 17-18mm.
