In no way is this a good test. I need sun but at 5.6 this thing is brilliant . I see quite a jump from F4 to 5.6 in the corners. Ill test under better weather but just for kicks here is a F5.6
I don't care much about pixel peeping, but rendering on the complete image is nice even sun missing (or because of that) the sign and the wooden part of the wall render both really nice.

Agree this little lens I can tell already has the goods and the big reason I bought it was from Freds samples I really liked the rendering on it. Now here there is not even a hint of light so its horrible lighting and it still did pretty good. Looking forward to more shooting with it

Just shot Big Bronco with all three lenses and will post latter off to a gig but the Sony 50 is a little wider than the CV 50 3.5 . Not sure which is technically correct but interesting
....and I finally found one reasonable priced, while robertwhite.co.uk was 463£ = 557EUR + shipping and Amazon.de 619EUR (free delivery). I got one for 529EUR (free delivery) by ordering from Scandinavian photo (they have Finnish language website but it's Swedish store). They don't have stock, but they checked and Swedish importing company has stock and it takes 3-4 days for them to get it and then 3-4 days to ship to me - but as there is nothing to shoot for next 3 months I have all the time in world to wait...
And next challenge; polarizer. Seems to be step-up ring needed as there really aren't any 27mm filters from quality brands. There are few "Kood" and "Fotga" branded polarizers in eBay, but they can't be good (cost <10USD). So most likely normal use will be step-up 27-46mm and 46mm B+W polarizer, which I have for Contax G-lenses. This lens will look look ridiculous with 27-46mm step-up + 46-58 step-up + 58-77mm step-up to use 77mm Nisi 15 stop ND

Well glancing at Big Bronco test i can say one thing for sure. Its one sharp lens no question about it. Even F5.6 is amazing in the corners. Im keeping mine and will get a 27-52 step up. Yea it will look stupid no question but who cares.
If you can grab one than I would recommend doing so. Its right there against my Sony 50 1.4 which I have a excellent copy of and in some cases looks even sharper. Put it this way its better at F5.6 in the corners than the Sony. I need to post all this and sort through it all but first glance is a Wow. Ill keep both for very different reasons and situations but as far as a landscape/travel/hiking lens it certainly has the goods.

There is one producer actually - Heliopan makes polarizers in 27mm size. I've checked with my local distributor last year while I had the lens. They are not widely available though and have to be specially ordered. Not cheap either, coming in at 55 EUR for a tiny polarizer.

Thanks for the info Stjepan! I chose to use Heliopan 39mm CPL w/ my Summicron-M 50mm, nice high quality filters (thou would be nice to have modern nano coating for practicality). I'll have to see where I could find one.

So Breakthrough Photography the filters I use start at 39mm,43,46 and up. Right now I’m sitting on 62 mm both Cpl and ND but I do have a 52 CPL I could sell and get a small one for the 50 with a step up

Starting off they all have very similar color which I did all of this on Daylight WB to cut out any variance . Also The two 50's have slight barrel distortion and the CV 40 has pin cushion. Nothing serious and can be fixed easily but again no free lunch as they say
p.4 #15 · Infinity test: CV 50/3.5 vs CV 40/1.2 vs FE 50/1.4 ZA
Now for the test i moved the Sony and CV40 in to match the CV 50 framing so everything is equal framing. But 48/49mm assuming the CV is correct but we don't really know which one is technically exactly 50mm.

So now carefully looking at it and really looking out to the extreme edge I see the Sony 50 looking a little better. The knot that I usually look at under the lamp is very similar but that outside edge the nod goes to Sony. Now again the Sony is stopped down several stops over the CV 50
Lets see F6.3. I did it because i had a feeling it would hit the mark.
