I just got my Z6 after trading in my D500 during the Nikon Trade Up event. The default date on the camera was 12/21/2018. So looks like a Dec 2018 stock ?
Today I tried Z6 focus tacking feature.
I set the camera to take 25 pictures (no. of shots 25), focus step width 1, interval until next shot 0", first frame exposure lock, silent photography ON. EFCS on.
I used my AF-S Micro-Nikkor 105/2.8 VR @ f/5.6.
Starting focus point was set on the red book on the left of the frame below, and entitled "Microcosmos".
After merging the images in Photoshop (CS6) I obtained (too) many artefacts.
You can download the full-res image here.

Try using Helicon as it is excellent
Thank you charles.K.
So you think that the artefacts depend on Photoshop more than on focus breathing of the 105 VR?
You will always usually have artefacts on the edges regardless of the stacking software you use. Zerene is very good and allows you to clone in areas from the original image that may not be optimal in the final stacked image. Otherwise frame a bit wider so you can crop the edge artefacts out.
Very odd. If you look at the individual images, do you have one where those circled spots are in focus? I'd have to imagine you do at least for the one in the lower-left, as it doesn't adhere to a plane of focus (the others there isn't enough surrounding information to make the judgement).

Does this depend on the limits of Photoshop? Do I need to use a better software for focus stacking? Any advice? Thanx.
I also use Helicon Software but I now use more the nativ Z lenses 24-70 or 50 because they do not have such a big focus breath problem like most others including the 105 which I also use but only for macros when focus distance change are very tiny.
p.s.: There is a 30 day demo available from Helicon...
