Since you are contributing just change the name of the thread to the Official Z6 Image thread It does not matter who starts the thread.

Also please someone convince me not to swap out my Z7 for the Z6

The only thing that gives me pause right now is that the Z6 apparently (for some stupid reason) does not have the 4:5 crop mode?? Is this true or is it just a misprint on the Nikon site?

Done. Looking forward to seeing more Z images and learning how to use the new toy in more efficient ways.

Seems to be the case. Available image areas:
- FX
- DX
- 1:1
- 16:9

Keep your Z7.

Haha thanks for confirming. That is such a bizarre choice on Nikon's part - but I suppose it's at least consistent with what they've done on other bodies, as the D810/D850 both have the 4:5 crop mode and the D750 only had DX crop mode.

Does DX mode fill the EVF and LCD, or there is a frame inside, DSLR like?

DX fills the EVF and LCD. 1:1 has black borders on the sides.

Still better than the A7RIII in this regard for sure.

Snug, keep the Z7 for the resolution, and buy a Z6 too. You know you want too. The Z6 is a good value at the price Nikon has set for it.

How do you like the color from the Z6 compare to your Nikon DSLR? Especially with regard to skin tones on initial raw file import.

After a lot of agonizing this evening as I near the end of my return window, I've decided to keep the Z7 and not swap it out for the Z6

A lot of little things pushed me towards the decision, but it's far from a landslide either way as the Z6 seems like a ridiculous camera (especially because they didn't chintz out on the EVF and display for the lower rez model like Sony did with the A73/A7R3). Main things that convinced me to keep the Z7 is:

  1. I am somewhat of a resolution addict so 45mp is definitely a big plus (and I've used the smaller raw modes enough to know that they're acceptably sharp for my usage), also it's nice to have 3 cameras that are redundant from a sensor output standpoint
  2. No optical low pass filter in the Z7, so stills should theoretically be sharper than the Z6 all things staying equal
  3. Base iso of 64 is more important to me than having a max of 51200 on the Z6 (max I push it typically is 6400 for paid work),
  4. Additional crop modes are useful for me like square crop (especially because vertical grip is still a question mark)
  5. Still to be determined how the increased number of PDAF points (493 vs 273) on the Z7 might affect AF performance compared to the Z6

Honestly though, I had to really dig to come up with a good justification for the $1k price difference haha

I don't see much difference - seems to be consistent with D850. I'm not a pro though - Sung may be able to elaborate about D850 vs Z (I'd assume Z6/Z7 will have the same results in that regard). Truth be told, I barely process my photos (mainly just some super basic adjustments in LR).

In Australia the price differential is a lot greater. The Z7 is 5.3K and the Z6 is 3.3K which is very substantial. Since I am keeping my D850 I am now erring to the Z6

I am a big fan of the colors and skintones the Z7 produces (paired with great glass like the 28 f1.4E, 58 f1.4G, etc of course). I'd say skintones are slightly better SOOC on the Z7 compared to my D850, but if I had to put money on it - I'd say the color output is close to identical.

Did some headshots last month with the Z7 but they were from a volume job and perhaps not portfolio worthy I've set up a few fun shoots in the studio with some models/actors, so hopefully will post up some stuff soon - one is a professional dancer so hoping to test out the AF on moving subjects more.

I know exactly what is going to happen! I acquire the Z6 and it then becomes Marisa's D750 replacement

Thank you. You are helping me build my justification to keep Z7

I've almost convinced myself to get the Z6 over the A7III. I do wish the native 35mm 1.8 was smaller and less expensive but I guess that can be said about most lenses.
