This shot shows the strength of this lens!
Absolutely! This was with winds gusting to 40+mph and I had to hold my tripod down with my body to keep it from flipping over. Anything over 10 seconds was unusable, and even this shot had a tiny bit of motion blur (the compression to get it down below 1.5mb also seems to have taken some of the sharpness away). Definitely could not have shot with a slower lens that evening.
Also, I could easily see the aurora in the EVF at f/1.4 even when it was not very visible to the naked eye, which helped me frame my shots. I'm wondering if it will be possible to do the same for the milky way when summer rolls around again.
Few shots of the kids during yard work. Loving the versatility of the lens, I was shooting landscapes this morning and the kids in the afternoon. It really shines on the A7rII or A7rIII where if its slightly to wide, you can easily crop and have plenty of resolution left. Colours are fantastic, like a mini 85 GM, but with faster AF.
Note, I shot some of these into the sun without the hood on. all @ f1.4
I took a picture of my 24GM and 7r3 so you can see the whole combo size. This 24GM is SMALL and beautiful! Note that my hand is very small. (I like GM design more than Batis)/ This lens has been attached to my camera since day 1 when I got it. I set up the button on the lens for crop mode and make it like a " 24-36mm f1.4 zoom" ;-)!!! Very convenient and 18mp is good enough for my family pictures.
I hope Sony continues to make small and good lenses like this. For example, 35mm f2 GM, 50mm f2 GM, 105 f2...
BTW, shot by Fuji XE3 and 18-55 if you were wondering.

Love these! The colors and rendering now have me thinking of adding the 24GM to match my 85GM for family shooting. What are you using to fill the gap between the two?

Wow this really puts the size in perspective! Super compact package. Thinking of this exact setup to cover 35mm as well. Have you compared to any other 35mm options in crop mode?

At the moment I have a 55 (and the CV 40 1.2 manual focus), also have the 35 2.8, but it doesn't see a lot of use, though it's a great lens that I won't sell, though the 24 makes it a bit redundant.
Another on from tonight, slightly cropped in terrible lighting...

Sorry I don't have any other 35mm at this time. I had 35/2.8 then sold it last year. Not at the same time to compare, but I like 24mm 1.4 at crop mode better than Zeiss 35mm 2.8. I'm waiting for Batis 40mm to see how it will do.
Why the a9 vs the Riii
I've yet to put it on the a9, me thinking next spring when Milky Way core returns would be a9 time.
With my limited experience with 24GM I think it is 10 star lens. Sun stars could be better but overall
it is a win.

My initial thought when the lens arrived was that I'd get the most out of it IQ-wise by relegating it to the R3. I also thought that the AF performance would be plenty good (which it is), but I did get a few more slight misses than I would've liked in a few scenarios.
So out of curiosity, I finally decided to mount it on the A9 over the weekend. Boom. Awesome. lol.
Don't get me wrong. It is plenty good on the R3 AF-wise for the most part. But make no mistake, it is perfect on the A9. Just a bit snappier and consistently spot on which are pretty important for what and how I shoot.
It will still see time on the R3 sporadically. But my gut tells me I'll just be running and gunning with it on the A9 barring the scenarios where I need those beautiful R3 files.
