For anyone who may be interested. As an owner of the Sigma 24mm F1.4 ART e-mount lens, I spent the last few weeks feeling excited about the Sony 24mm f/1.4 GM due to its slightly smaller size, lighter weight and better video autofocus. More importantly, the images on this thread have been absolutely gorgeous and were tempting me to look buying the lens but I always wanted to know the image quality compares with the Sigma. It has been painfully difficult trying to find anyone who has reviewed the two side by side.
I spotted a reader at phillipreeve.net who mentioned he had reviewed both lenses and said that the Sigma was sharper around the centre than the Sony (wide open) and the Sony was sharper around the corners. He also said that the Sigma has better LoCA correction, less vignetting and chose to keep the Sigma over the Sony.
Then a few days ago, I managed to find a copy of the Sony 24mm GM at a photography shop in London and took along my Sigma 24mm so I could make like for like comparisons for my own satisfaction as I was genuinely 99% set on getting the Sony lens. My observations matched that of the reader's at phillipreeve.net - that the Sigma is definitely significantly and noticeably sharper in the centre and the Sony was sharper in the corners (wide open). I also noticed the Sigma's bokeh balls were round and the Sony's were shaped like a cat's eyes. So I found myself in a real dilemma at first - do I want sharper corners or sharper centres? In the end I decided to keep my Sigma because I rationalised with myself saying that we all look towards the centre of frame far more than we do at corners of photos, so that is more important to me....Show more →
"do I want sharper corners or sharper centres?" Well this statement is debatable. I have seen reviews saying the opposite. That said you can find a review to back up any point of view today But at the end of the day both lenses are sharp. Sharp enough that most people would not be able to tell the difference. What's important is you are happy with your lens choice. That's all the matters. For me I'll take the smaller, lighter, native lens

Absolutely true! It's all down to personal preferences and needs.
Had a photoshoot today with a couple to prepare for their upcoming wedding.. Shot this one at 1.8, one of few where I went near wide open for the day...

Just picked up my copy of the 24/1.4 GM. Here's the first snaps with it. Looks like it's everything everyone has said! More exploration needed.
