I'm curious if there are shims. I'm not opening mine up, but maybe Stephen has the info. If I knew there were, I'd probably take one out. It's REALLY close to the hard stop on my copy.

Life's been too hectic to shoot much besides snaps around the house. So, here's a cpl of those. Very impressed with edge sharpness and contrast wide open at close range.

It happens. I bought this the day before I had to pay a vet $400. If I had better impulse control and hadn't been waiting months for this lens to be released (i.e. If I'd waited a day) it would not have happened.
Tires are probably more important, btw.

They definitely are. I knew they were worn and was planning on getting new tires next month when I'm due a big bonus at work, but was getting an oil change today and asked for a rotation, and the guys showed that while tread over most of the tire was OK, the inner side near the sidewall had actually split apart and the tread was separating....had to go straight to the tire place and replace them before they blew out while I was driving.

I just had few minutes today to take some infinity shots with the CV 21 and with the 16-35 GM. My first impressions are extremely positive...the tiny CV 21 is very close. I need to have repeated results to confirm with screenshots.
My initial findings are:
- my copy is perfectly centered and seems to hit infinity just a bit before the hard stop and then holds it ;
- at F3.5 it is very sharp in the centre and has a linear drop towards the corners which maintain a good resolution; - I am not able to replicate the mid drop;
- the GM wide open is slightly ahead in the centre and definitely ahead in the corners
- at landscape aperture F8 it is very sharp across the entire frame and indistinguishable from the GM;
- the GM seems more contrasty in general and with a cooler color rendering
- the GM seems to have 1/3 T-stop advantage

I noticed just a slight lower contrast in the 21. I’m heading out soon to test mine. Rain has stopped overnight and just waiting to it’s light. I’m bringing my Loxia 25 with me to test against on Big Bronco.

Was this at infinity? If so, I'm starting to believe this lens may do better at mid-field than my test demonstrated. I should have another copy on Friday to confirm this. Perhaps the mid-field focal plane is very slight further than the hard stop of my current copy.
I am curious to see what Guy's infinity test shows.

I’m not seeing it on screen. My infinity is just shy of the hard stop. So I shot both before and at the hard stop. Need to get on computer but this thing is either just slightly less than my Loxia 25 or matching it. Can’t believe how good wide open is

Okay I threw in the Loxia 25 on Big Bronco. The 21mm is pretty close but lets look at distortion first. On the CV 21 its a simple barrel distortion. I do have the camera slightly tilted up because I want this lights

Okay here i fixed the key stoning first than applied the distortion correction and it looks really good. Should be very good for Architecture work. Its just hard to shoot Big Bronco with a 21 and not look up without getting the lights which are the CA and sunstar parts of the image. I got to get them in

That sucks but looking on the bright side, luckily the hood was attached!
