Is there an excellent cost/performance L-plate (~$25) for the A7R3 or do I have to pony up the RRS ($200) bucks?

Priorities:

1. solid/reliable fit

2. easy access to side connections (wired release, etc)

3. left over money after purchase lol

What do you guys/gals use?

I’ve been happy with my sunwayfoto L bracket. I’d previously only used RRS, but was taken aback by the price. The RRS is for sure nicer, but not 4x so.

+!

Many of us are using the Sunwaryfoto L bracket and are happy with it. It is not $25, but basically $60.

The SmallRig L-Bracket is getting great reviews and it's only $59

I have a Gabale and very happy with it. I don’t remember what I paid for it but was reasonable.

Thanks for the suggestions! The Sunway looks nice...but the 2cm grip extension on the Smallrig, hmm!

I believe the Gabale is the direct knock-off of the RRS.

The Smallrig brackets reportedly don't fit properly in the RRS lever clamps.

The cost of the RRS products is getting ridiculous, though, so I'm in the process of converting all of my tripod heads over to screw-type clamps so I can use the less expensive Chinese plates and L-brackets.

Guess he halready ordered the Gabale, which by the way seems a very sensible choice to me, I've just opted for another very similar Chinese knock-off that did not require to relocate the battery door like the Gabale.

I agree that RRS plates are priced ridicously for what they are, I just cannot justify that money for a simple L-bracket, no matter how good the materials are (unless it's made of plated gold.. )

The SmallRig is a nice product for the price but it's not compatible with the TechArt (which for me was essential).

I have both an RRS (A7R3) and a Gabale (A73)

They're comparable in design, but the materials on the RRS are clearly of a higher quality. Is that worth paying a premium for? Maybe, but I wouldn't buy another RRS plate.

I got to use one, and not a fan. It's really big and heavy. The clamping sit on the bottom is not big, seems like it might have issues with bigger clamps.

It can work but the fit is off, too tight.

The Sunway is very good I think, and you can fix it at different distances so you do have room for USB cables to put in.
I tried the RRS, but apart from the high price I do not like the batterie door that has to be changed place. I do not use a L plate all the time, so that construction is not my favorite!

I agree with the design of the battery door on the RRS is a pain in the butt for me as I only use the plate when shooting off a tripod and going through contortions to change a battery in the field is just stupid.

I've loved my Kirk. Not cheapest, not most expensive, but it's been rock solid.

I had an RRS L-plate for my A7. I found that I don't like the extra weight and bulk an L-plate adds though, and I would only carry it when doing tripod work. For that reason, when I picked up the A7rII, I opted to just buy the simpler & cheaper Sunwayfoto L-bracket (sans grip). It's generic enough to fit my other cameras as well so I may not have to get something new next upgrade.
