Guy, old man, don’t be serious buddy...yes you are the Pro tester !!
I thought you meant cow b/w shot...I misread “the image above” as the cow image. Then you piled on me
Sorry about this.

Exactly you will never get that look with a 55. It would swirl out in the background you would get cats eye bokeh.
No shit I test these lenses I know exactly what they will do and don’t do. Or I would never stick my neck out to be wrong.
I know I’m joking sort of about never being wrong but it is kind of true. I will never give out bad data. It’s a real pet peeve of mine. Yea you may hate me that’s fine but you can always trust what I put my name on.
Of course I will make mistakes. I’m human too but I have no agenda. I can be here or not...Show more →
Love these images, but really don't need another 50! I have the V40/1.2 and it pretty much lives on my a7rIII. I have the 55/1.8, and while it's sharp, it just doesn't do anything for me. Seems lacking in some way. I did rent the Sony 50/1.4 for a while, and loved, loved that lens. The rendering was special. So far, though, only bought the V 40/1.2, and haven't bought another in a while. I've actually been wondering about the 60/2 macro instead, but now these images making me wonder....

Guess I am usually shooting for more, not less DOF when I am outdoors shooting fences...
BTW, can someone please share the recipe for optimal uploading of images here from Lightroom? I am paying so that I could do that, but can't seem to get it right. I have uploaded images from my computer and they always look very low resolution.
Thanks in advance.

Here is what I do for uploading files:
I downsize in steps about 1.67 smaller in size from the original file to either 1200 or 1500 (depending on how big I want to present the image) on the longest side. Then I set the color space to sRGB, then I save to 8 bit color space and export to a jpeg with high quality. I do this in photoshop rather than Lightroom, but I am sure you could do it in Lightroom too.

Thanks...I have usually tried to do this in Lightroom, and actually did it with the photo I posted, but it looked terrible...low resolution with I presume lots of JPEG compression.

I created actions in PS for web and follows your steps closely
One thing I think is important is to output first to a master tif file . Than any output you do than work from your master. In this case the action convert the color space from Prophoto RGB to SRGB than I have several sizes 800,900,1200 and 3000 on the wide side so I pick what I need depending on use case

Actually, I'm not sure what you mean by this part...."I downsize in steps about 1.67 smaller in size from the original file"...I understand limiting the long edge to a certain number of pixels, but where does the 1.67 come in?

Let's say the long edge is 5500 pixels to start. I first downsize it to 3300 using bicubic sharper. Then I downsize it to 2000. Then I downsize it to 1200. I find using steps like that in downsizing I like the results better. Someone on here suggested that once upon a time and I got used to doing it that way, and I like the results it produces.

I use this simple and easily adjustable Lightroom export preset:
Any further feedback on the viewfinder blockage from this lens on Leica (in my case M10)? There is some speculation earlier in the thread based on other lenses, but I'd be curious for comments from folks using this on Leica bodies. Thanks!

Assuming a bare M-mount 50/1.2 lens (no filter, no lens hood) on an M10-P:
* at infinity focus, the front edge of the lens barely intrudes into the bottom right corner of the 50mm frameline (i.e. it touches the bottom end of the vertical frameline and the right end of the horizontal frameline);
* at minimum focus distance, the front edge of the lens touches the bottom right corner of the 75mm frameline.
Anyone switch to/from this lens and the 40mm. In a way I would like to own both but that probably doesn’t make much sense. Phillips site has a nice review on this. The 21 also looks fantastic. Voigtlander really has some great glass right now.
I guess it really comes down to what FL you prefer.

I own neither but the 40 would be the better FL for me.
That said I would buy the 50.
I buy 1.2 lenses to shoot at/near wide open and the lack of onion rings would be a big deal for me.
Obviously the AF lenses are better corrected but why is it so hard to add an AF motor to these lightweight MF lenses. I would think they would do well.

It’s like asking: why can’t they put wheels on my house? They can, but it’d be an RV and consequently, a whole different animal.
