I’m actually confused by this thread now. I originally had the M version and I think folks are still talking about that. I have the new FE version. I’m betting donuts this is better than the 40 FE and maybe right on target with the Sony 50 1.4

I was similarly confused but the thread title is not specific to any mount, so it can cover both I suppose.

It's better than the 40/1.2, especially away from center but it's not as good as the 50/1.4 ZA at any aperture. The 50/1.4 ZA has neutral rendering which I like but the CV 50/1.2's rendering is noticeably smoother.

Fred how do you find the FE CV 50/1.2's rendering vs the Loxia 50 at F2 ?? Curious to see some portraits / bokeh comparisons at F2 - F4
Any further findings on the FE Mount version of this lens? Anybody?
I got mine today but won’t have time to do any serious evaluation of it until Friday. I took a few test shots at infinity at f/2 and it appears to be sharp across the frame except for the extreme corners. It’s a nice piece of kit. The build is incredible. It’s larger than I was expecting but I’m not sure why i was expecting it to be smaller... it’s about the same size as the FE 55 so actually very compact for its speed.
I love the short metal screw on hood that it comes with as that’s exactly the kind of aftermarket hood I would normally put on all my lenses anyway. I hate bulky plastic hoods that come on most lenses that make adjusting a CPOL nearly impossible. With this, you can put on the filter than the hood and just rotate the filter by turning the hood.
I don’t have a lot of experience with manual focus, but this lens seems well suited to it. The ergonomics are outstanding with the aperture ring on the end and the super smooth large knurled focus ring. As others before me have said, these CV lenses are superb ergonomically.

I’m planing Big Bronco tests on Thursday.CV 50 1.2 vs Sony 50 1.4
Rokinon 35 2.8
CV 28 Ultron with PCX 5000
Sony 135 1.8

Need to also check AF speed on Rok 85 1.4
I’m behind in my testing
Great. Looking forward to it! Like you, I love the ergonomics of these lenses (see edits above). This is my first CV, but I very much doubt it will be my last.

Which PCX would most likely correct the field curvature of the VM on a Sony? How far off do you suspect it would still be from the FE?
I highly recommend the CV 50/1.2 E-mount with a Sony body. I'm sure a PCX will tame the induced field curvature for the VM version but it will not match the FE's performance off-axis.
If you go back and look at the previous CV 50mm 1.2 lens VM at 1.4 its going to be worse than this is at 1.4
FYI shooting at 1.2 was just to big a overexposure in this sun. Thats a test at F1.2 that needs to be done on a less bright day. This is Big Bronco maybe the brightest light on the planet. Im in the freaking desert.
So the CV 50 at F1.4 with no correction. Its actually pretty good
Bottom line you looking for 1.4 in the corners maybe the best around than buy the Sony 50 1.4. These lenses to me at least have different priorities for my shooting. Maybe yours too
Okay I have a center test between them. The question becomes when does the CV 50 1.2 lens hit the golden grail in the corners. Remember not really a intended landscape type lens but like the CV 40 FE it certainly works for it. My Call F4
