Lots of field curvature (away from camera) on those 50/1.2 shots on the GFX - eg the light fixture base above the model is nearly in focus.
yep, it goes away obviously when stopped down, the 40mm is much worse.

According to SAR, this lens is finally about to be announced for E-Mount , today.
I don't think it will be announced today 2/26 in Japan as it's already evening in Japan but could be on 2/27 Japan time, just one day before CP+ starts. They'd probably have the lens for demo at CP+ too.
They didn't say that announcement will come within today or within hours like SAR did.
Looks like April release and Japan official price is 148500 JPY which is a bit more expensive than most native E-mount Voigtlander lenses so far. Street prices are always about 10-20% cheper than official price here though.

@Juha Kannisto@@
Will you check out what is on display again like last year?
Yes, I plan to go there on Saturday again. I will post something based on what they have for demo this time around. I hope there would be something new in addition to 50/1.2 too, e.g. some development announcements.

Yeah, that is exactly what I am hoping for too, and last time you were the first to report on the new Cosina lenses (afaicr).
Thanks in advance!
Thanks Bastian I keep hoping for a new 28mm for e-mount personally.
I'll certainly try out everything new they have available for demo in e-mount.

I hope for a new 4/180
I will also be getting (and reviewing) the new Mitakon/ZhongYi/Shoten 50mm 0.95E III soon,
communication with (some) chinese companies works significantly better than with japanese ones
Getting in contact with Cosina: impossible for Gaijin.

Yeah, I think a lot of the (especially smaller) Japanese companies can mainly only communicate in Japanese and not sure how responsive they will be to any queries or requests coming from individuals. I always chat with some Cosina representatives at CP+ in Japanese but that's the only contact window I have to them. They never reveal any unannounced information there. I've tried to give them some requests regarding new e-mount lenses while chatting at CP+ too but not sure if such requests will have any real influence. I did request 28mm last year too so maybe they've finally built it
I got a few M and LTM mount lenses this year, so far the new Voigtlander 35/2 VM Ultron, the 2006 limited edition 50/2 Voigtlander Heliar classic and last weekend I got a like-new Avenon 28/3.5 MC LTM (10 aperture blade version from 1997) from old Camera fair that is arranged twice a year in Tokyo. Not looking to buy too many more in the short term but I have some that I can trade in e.g. for the new 50/1.2 when it comes.
I have a pre-booking for one so looking forward to getting it in 2 weeks.
I should get one for review as well but aside from perhaps better resolution off-axis, the M and E-mount should perform pretty much equally.
There is something that intrigued me when I compared the 40/1.2 to the 50/1.2 Nokton. The latter is free of onion ring pattern in specula highlights even though their designs and the use of double side asphericals is similar.
The Nokton VM 50 1.2 is one great little lens. I think the Emount version will be received very well. But I remember some poll on this forum that people seemed to prefer the 40 1.2 over the 50. Let's see how this shakes out once the Emount version hits the streets.
My vote goes to 1.2 on the 50 VM vs the 1.2 on the 40 E. I expect 1,2 will be just as strong on the 50 E. But I'm a fast lens junkie and seems 40mm has become very popular/ubiquitous since the 40 1.2 came out.

There’s been a remarkable turnaround in the past couple of years. Before that, whenever the 40mm focal length was mentioned, even on FM it was commonly dismissed as “weird”, “neither fish nor fowl”, or “too close to 35mm”.

40mm is still an off-brand phenomenon - Voigtlander and Sigma and Zeiss/Tamron-Batis. Welcome to the beta test laboratory, lol. The lenses you have when you give up a century of tradition, and wisdom regarding FL gapping.
Canon, Nikon, Sony and Zeiss are very much 35-50 companies in their new ranges. For Serious Zeiss, all this FE business is a sideshow; their serious lenses run the way that few would complain about:
15-18-21-25-29-35-50-65-85-100-135-150-200.
Yes, that is the Supreme Prime range based on extensive feedback from high end cine lens users, but it's obviously too much in the interests of photographers to replicate these lenses FLs for mere mortals with shallower pockets.
Many would pay handsomely for a 29mm, a 65mm, a 150mm and a 200mm from Serious Zeiss. Not to forget a new age middle aperture 35mm. Filling in the trad range properly, then adding new FLs looks enticing. The cine people think so too.

I’d be kinda surprised if this 50 is more popular than its 40mm lil brother. In my humble opinion, the biggest hurdle for this new 50 f/1.2 is that Sony already has such a good 50mm f/1.4. I’ve even heard that the manual focus on the current 50 isn’t too bad. I suppose it’ll come down to price, and of course, weight. The 40mm f/1.2 didn’t have to worry about that dilemma. It didn’t really have much competition. Of course, some of the traditionalists will go for the 50, just because it’s what they prefer from experience.

Perhaps Cosina is using a new aspherical molding process? There is also the difference between 10 and 12 aperture blades.
Looking forward to your review and to receiving my lens in 1 week I suppose the new 50/1.2 E-mount would also be free of onion ring pattern though it remains to be seen. Onion rings haven't bothered me much at all with the 40/1.2 though. My old CV 35/1.2 VM v1 used to have much more noticeable ones when I still had it. I'm curious on MFD sharpness (45cm vs. 35cm for the 40/1.2) and on sunstars with the 12 aperture blades.
I'm keeping my 40/1.2 E-mount but expect to sell a couple of 50mm lenses in the future as I have quite many of those. Loxia 50/2 and 50/1.5 Nokton VM will probably be traded in next time I get something new. Still keeping my 50/3.5 Heliar VM and 50/2 Heliar classic VM and also my native Sony 50-55mm lenses for AF use.
