p.1 #1 · AF performance of Sony FE 50mm f/1.8 (SEL50F18F) on A7RIII
Hi,
I'm needing some 50mm for video shooting on an stabilizer, so I guess my 24-105 is gonna be kind of heavy.
AF is paramount, so my VL65 is out of the game.
Do you know if this SEL50F18F has improved its AF after the last firmware?

yes, it works fine for video. There's a tiny bit of AF noise, if you're in a completely silent room, but not very much.
thanks a lot for your kind reply Charlie.
This is for an special assignment on video interviews, sound is going to be managed with external micros, so I guess its noise is not an issue, at least for this work.
I've seen Optical Limits review on it, and at f:5,6 it delivers a pretty nice performance, which is precisely how I plan to shoot, to grab enough depth of field on the subject.
My main concern is if AF is reliable enough on AF-C
regards

I shoot casual video with the lens wide open, not an issue. You gotta remember that in video, you only need to resolve 8mp of detail, which the lens can easily do wide open.
hard to find newish and relevant reviews of the lens, but sorted by date, I did find a video that mimmicks my experience on the R3, down to the AF noise. You can hear it in the video, and in practice, it's quite minimal. Any sort of background noise would cancel it out.
while the test uses the center as AF, I have no issues with off center AF.

thanks a lot for the link
I guess AF is pretty reliable, and its sound won't bother me as I'm using external micros.
