WOW, stunning thread! Thanks everyone for sharing your experience with Nikon Z and Leica M glass. I'm seriously considering the Z7, because I'm not really happy about the Noctilux 0.95 performance on my current Sony A7RII. But I should wait until someone releases a smart Canon EF to Nikon Z (S? Why not choosing the same letter for cameras and lens mount?), because I really need to use my TS-E lenses anyway...

I am glad you found the thread useful. I didn't know Noct 0.95 has problem on Sony, but I am sure Joakim can share more Noct images in the future here
I also hope some smart adapters will show up. Right now, Leica M's lens exif can't be recorded with dumb adapter. and indeed Canon have the best TS lens line up in the industry.

Thanks for replying! Your inputs are impressive and really helpful.
Well, it is supposed that 50mm lenses and upwards should perform properly, but I think that the Noctilux doesn't shine so much as it does on Leica M cameras. The rendering is different, not so pleasing, and anyway some degradation of the image quality still occurs on the corners. I'm too lazy for controlled tests, so all this is mostly subjective, but I'm keeping an eye on any review of Leica M glass (and specifically of the Noctilux) with the Nikon Z7.
I owned two Noctilux f1 and ended selling them because I was not totally happy. Then I regretted. Then I re-bought it . Not happy. Selling. Regretting. Buying the 0.95 instead... Kind of gear (Noctilux) madness. I was obsessed with this lens since I knew it existed (many years before), but as a Canon DSLR user I had little chance to mount it (and later, as a Nikon user, I had none), so I jumped to Sony basically for that (and because I was still able to use my TS-E lenses and to try virtually any vintage lens).

The M 50 Noct f/1.0 Mandler was my all time favorite lens on the M9/M240/Monochrom. I had spent a lot of time also taking shots on the A7r/A7s/A7II and A7rII and like your self I never found quite the same fall off in rendering as with M bodies so much so I moved on my 50 Noct f/1.0. Now if the M 50 Noct f/1.0 behaves well on the Z7 I will acquire it again but also I am looking forward to the 50/1.2 S

IMHO, the Mandler Noctilux performed better (on the Sony) than its newer brother. I also loved that rendering (even with the Sony limitations) . Now I'm expecting to see more reviews of Leica M lenses on the Nikon Z7 and, if the decent performance is confirmed, I will consider to get the Z camera once smart adapters for EF lenses are delivered (and prices drop a bit! Now they're outrageous: camera, adapters and XQD cards). I'm also very intrigued about the new fast fifties by Nikon and Canon. I still miss the Canon 50L, I did love that lens (and the 85L), but I found it too big for a Sony (I wasn't willing to buy an expensive Metabones AF adapter, and I thought that the focus-by-wire wouldn't give me a pleasant manual focus experience either). Wow! So many options... to go bankrupt!

I also own this lens. Performs flawlessly on the Sony A7RII (no surprise here, since it's a R lens).I do love its rendering. Very very much. So much I thought it was a Mandler design, but it isn't. When I got the Noctilux I was planning to sell the Summilux, but now I'm not sure. I like it too much.

50 Noctilux .95
Hi Joakim
Those pictures look really promising. I own a Noctilux 0.95 but I'm not 100% happy about how it performs on my Sony A7RII. So I'm really exited about the Nikon Z7 thinner sensor stack. Any further sample/experience of the Noct/Z7 combo would be greatly appreciated.

Tack så mycket!
I read your earlier post and the replies so I did a quick indoor test earlier today comparing the .95 Noctilux on the Z7 and the Leica M10 shooting a bookshelf with cameras on a tripod from wide open to f/8. Just viewing the images at 100% the ones from the M10 was clearly better but once I downsized the Z7 images to the same 24 Mpixel size as the M10 images it was very hard to tell them apart.
So far I have had very mixed result shooting the Noctilux handheld wide open and I think it's because with a somewhat new way of holding the camera/lens and the fact that it's a 46 Mpixel sensor I need to be more careful while shooting. I am also unsure how IBIS handles this lens, it's so much heavier than a normal 50mm lens so maybe I need to program it as another focal length. Anyone else had some experience with this?

Thank you so much for such effort! I really appreciate it. I hadn't considered the weight/IBIS ratio, clever idea of yours. I'll set the focal length to 60 or perhaps 85 and see whether it makes any difference.
It would be nice if someone could compare the Noctilux side by side on a Sony A7 RII or III and on the Z7, as they have about the same resolution.

I have had experience with the M 50 Noct f/1.0 on the A7rII. I have been looking in my archives and I really despise not having Exiff intact The IBIS worked well but just you have to input 50mm. I think the IBIS is more prone to visible shake just due to the very thin DOF at f/1.0 so I would use higher shutter speeds. The MF was frustrating with the 50 Noct f/1.0 as you would need to enlarge to nail focus and this was a 2 set process on the A7rII. I did opt for an adapter at the time, no longer available where you could MF and enlarge by just turning the focus which was great, just a part of the focusing process.

Thanks for sharing your experience! Regarding EXIF data, assuming you use Lightroom, I don't know whether you know the plugin LensTagger (https://www.lenstagger.com). I use it to keep track of all my (many) vintage lenses.

Z7 continues to delight, I have no issues with the delay under magnification for critical focus, although I could see how it might be an issue. With focus peaking on manual lenses my success rate on eyes is very high, even with 85 f/1.4. I will have to compare to the α9 with native autofocus on both.
Shoten lm nz adapter arrived along with 30cm of snow.
50 Lux balances a bit better than on the α9 even. Will post some examples of all m lenses I have soon. Informal testing with elusive cats eyes at high iso is very promising.
Loving adapted lenses on the Z7, the Rollei Xenotar 80 f/2.8 is a perfect walkabout companion.

I have so many 50mm glass and I also like 50lux R very much. It may not have smoothest bokeh out of f1.4 lens but certainly is one of easiest manual focused 50f1.4 lenses. It is also sharp on center with right amount of SA for portrait.

Did you see some abnormal on IBIS with Noct only or generally? I haven't noticed any abnormal effect yet. I have used Z7's IBIS default on for stabilized VF for a while by now. I do have a stable hand even without IBIS most of time.
Though the ultimate test would be handhold water fall test However, I never leave it default on before with A7RII which will give me trouble some time to see blurred images at normal shooting condition.
