WOW, stunning thread! Thanks everyone for sharing your experience with Nikon Z and Leica M glass. I'm seriously considering the Z7, because I'm not really happy about the Noctilux 0.95 performance on my current Sony A7RII. But I should wait until someone releases a smart Canon EF to Nikon Z (S? Why not choosing the same letter for cameras and lens mount?), because I really need to use my TS-E lenses anyway...

Regards from Spain

I am glad you found the thread useful. I didn't know Noct 0.95 has problem on Sony, but I am sure Joakim can share more Noct images in the future here

I also hope some smart adapters will show up. Right now, Leica M's lens exif can't be recorded with dumb adapter. and indeed Canon have the best TS lens line up in the industry.

one more BW film simulation with 24-70

I also had the M 50 Nocti f/1.0 Mandler and absolutely loved it on the M9/M240/Monochrom. When I adapted it to A7r/A7s/A7

Thanks for replying! Your inputs are impressive and really helpful.

Well, it is supposed that 50mm lenses and upwards should perform properly, but I think that the Noctilux doesn't shine so much as it does on Leica M cameras. The rendering is different, not so pleasing, and anyway some degradation of the image quality still occurs on the corners. I'm too lazy for controlled tests, so all this is mostly subjective, but I'm keeping an eye on any review of Leica M glass (and specifically of the Noctilux) with the Nikon Z7.

I owned two Noctilux f1 and ended selling them because I was not totally happy. Then I regretted. Then I re-bought it . Not happy. Selling. Regretting. Buying the 0.95 instead... Kind of gear (Noctilux) madness. I was obsessed with this lens since I knew it existed (many years before), but as a Canon DSLR user I had little chance to mount it (and later, as a Nikon user, I had none), so I jumped to Sony basically for that (and because I was still able to use my TS-E lenses and to try virtually any vintage lens).

Best regards!

The M 50 Noct f/1.0 Mandler was my all time favorite lens on the M9/M240/Monochrom. I had spent a lot of time also taking shots on the A7r/A7s/A7II and A7rII and like your self I never found quite the same fall off in rendering as with M bodies so much so I moved on my 50 Noct f/1.0. Now if the M 50 Noct f/1.0 behaves well on the Z7 I will acquire it again but also I am looking forward to the 50/1.2 S

IMHO, the Mandler Noctilux performed better (on the Sony) than its newer brother. I also loved that rendering (even with the Sony limitations) . Now I'm expecting to see more reviews of Leica M lenses on the Nikon Z7 and, if the decent performance is confirmed, I will consider to get the Z camera once smart adapters for EF lenses are delivered (and prices drop a bit! Now they're outrageous: camera, adapters and XQD cards). I'm also very intrigued about the new fast fifties by Nikon and Canon. I still miss the Canon 50L, I did love that lens (and the 85L), but I found it too big for a Sony (I wasn't willing to buy an expensive Metabones AF adapter, and I thought that the focus-by-wire wouldn't give me a pleasant manual focus experience either). Wow! So many options... to get ruined!
