First outing with this lens. Not a great shot but I am amazed how sharp this thing is. Original photo followed by 100% crop taken on a A7III.

Blimey. You certainly did. Great photos. Need to get me one of those A9 things. A bit of skill would be good too.

Another 100% crop. I'm very impressed with the lens (not so the image).

If you see images taken with a tele like this one, most have sky or some other non-sharpness-hungry thing in the corners. Take a look at images in this thread for example. That is the nature of a tele lens. Often, you don't need sharp like tack corners, like in my case, mountain peaks having sky in the corners.
By that logic, and considering I want to own a tele (why tele, every lens) that I can carry everywhere, I am thinking of selling this great lens to buy a 70-300 G. That I am not a birder makes it easier for me. On my crop body, 70-300 will still give me 450mm.

I don't know if this will help you.

Min. focal distance, the full frame reduced to 1600 pixels on the long side, at 400mm wide open handheld, 1/100.
I'm reluctant to upload the shot at full size, even though part of the bill is missing.
It's pretty sharp thought out the frame.

Yes, this is my test chart.

The 4 corners (about) at full size.

Thank you Mitesh! A couple more with the 100-400 lens.. It's been my most used lens lately.

Thanks everyone for the shots. Very inspiring. GAS is demanding that I need to get the 1.4 converter. GAS is assuring me that once I do all my pigeon shots will transform into eagles with fish in talons and water drops dripping shots.

The 100-400GM is a brilliant zoom, I use it mostly for travel but also do some birding and landscape
