Well, consider me one possibly in the minority who does enjoy Instagram, for all its issues. I'm a landscape/adventure photographer, and I like being able to readily interact with other photographers and athletes with like-minded pursuits...I just wish there was a way to see high res versions of the photos!
Looking forward to checking out some of these accounts...
I only signed up at Instagram to follow my brother when he started working as a train driver and would post his shots there. I still don't really like it, but discovered that it's a great way to attract attention from (mostly local) businesses and it has lead to a few unexpected sales, having photos in a local magazine and Lensbaby asking me to beta-test a new lens, so I try and post a few times a month.
Overall I prefer Flickr, but it's clear that it's losing traffic to other photo sharing sites.
It's the "here today, gone tomorrow" setup of Instagram and Facebook that I struggle with. I like to do things long-term and those sites are the complete opposite. Photos get a short time in the spotlight, then they are forgotten.

Ditto that. This is one of my closest friends, he got his start on IG and has just had his second book published, called "Cats on Catnip" (incidentally, my cat is in the book
the 'big' thread has something that surprises and amazes me about every 3rd page (it used to be every page or two but now it's being diluted as Sony grows in popularity - i've been thinking about suggesting a few of the FM legends start their own thread)

heh, my friends photos is actually very similar to those and may be featured on that account.
pretty much why I've lost interest on the media and hashtags and just use it to connect with friends and family and equally minded individuals.

Almost every photographer not on Instagram as well.
When was the last time you saw an absolutely unique shot, pose, or composition?
Quite often actually !
Fact is there are millions of togs out there: pros, semi-pros, dedicated and brilliant amateurs, hobbyists and mobiletographers. I doubt there are many totally unique shots unless it is of subject matter 99.9999% of people don't have access to (Paul Nicklen for example). That said however we don't get to see all of those hundreds of millions of shots so often what we do see, in our small feeds, may be awesome even though not unique.
Since there are millions of IG users, who you subscribe to is important if you want quality and variety and certainly it's more than possible to find them and thereby keep your feed vibrant, fresh and interesting, as well as, for me at least, inspiring.
