FYI, next shipment of 500mm 5.6 lenses has hit BH....my cc has been charged...if you have pre-ordered you might want to check your retailer to see if yours is on the way too

Kirk now list LP-64 (the one for 70-200) as the foot for 500 PF in their site. So it's official now.

Kirk Replacement Lens Foot for Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8E FL ED VR and AF-S NIKKOR 500mm f/5.6E PF ED VR Lens
I've since modded it. The front most hole is now larger and accepts an Op/Tech Uni loop, as per my habit to have an insurance plan for long glass.
Shutter speeds of between 1/100 and 1/200 can be done with this lens with the VR on. I didn't have a lot of time to shoot with it (so please excuse the harsh light as it's what I had to work with) today but found that I had a much higher keep rate in the 1/100-1/200 range when snapping individual images rather than shooting in a burst which leads me to believe the theory that the typical issues in that range have to do with a vibration from the shutter/mirror.
The Blue Jay (slow shutter VR sample) below is a 50% crop, and the titmouse is a bit deeper of a crop.
I received my 500 f/5.6E PF lens a week ago and have managed to find a bit of time to shoot some of our local and migrant birds using my D850. I find the shots sharp wide open with the bare lens as well as the TC14E-III. AF is fast even with the TC. As for the TC17E-II, the focusing (AF) was just a tad slower but the images were more than acceptably sharp too. As is to be expected, no AF was possible with the TC20E-III.
Eric, and others, you are in for a treat when your lens arrives this week or next.
Frequently doing safari I predict this lens to go straight to the top of your favorites and you'll get
even more keepers with its super fast swing weight.
Now you Canadians Who know when you'll get yours.
From the backyard today...I did some serious attempts at processing the branch
I just go to quickly try the 500mm PF at the local photo show. I was impressed with the size and AF looked good. What is disappointing, though, is what the Nikon reps told me: it apparently will not be available before February/March in Canada.

Man, the news gets worse and worse....I emailed my guy to inquire about a CDN shipment last week when the new US shipment came in and never heard back....that isn't good......
LensTip finally got around to testing a copy of the 200-500 lens so we can now compare those results to the 500PF test they did last month.....spoiler....the 500PF lives up to its price point....
With the graphs posted you want to compare the green dots on the 200-500 graph with the red dots on the 500PF graph....
I also threw in the 180-400 graph....just for kicks.....however interesting is that the 180-400/1.4TC engaged doesn't do any better than these other lenses and in fact the 500PF at 500 outperforms the 180-400 at 550.....hhmmmm.....Now the bare 180-400 at 400 is another story all together....
Just cancelled one of my preorders....high likelihood I will cancel my other one later today....if Nikon doesn't want to provide me with a lens then I'll put my money elsewhere....

Makes no sense whatsoever! We’re talking about fricken Canada, not the tiny sovereign nation of Akhzivland,
It proves that a lot of so called smart executives are no so smart.
Don’t blame you for canceling

It is so weird because for the D850 we had them on shelves in Canada in November last year (short lived on shelves but often listed "In Stock" for a few days in a row)....totally opposite with this 500PF situation.....
