To ChrisMak, Gary Irwin, Lance B and NissanPatrol............ Thank you all so much.
I am hoping to learn more of their development in a couple of days.
I’ll be most thankful if both survived that cold rain.
I estimate the canoe took on between 2 and 3 gallons of water. I carry a big sponge and probably should also carry a small scoop or maybe a small siphon pump. On second thought, I think the sponge and small scoop should be enough (K.I.S.S.).
Cannot wait to see them again!
One more thing: This is what I use (to date...this may change) in the rain to protect the lens and body...
Over the decades, I’ve had a few significant repair expenses with NikonUsa, but nothing huge. I am talking up to say $400+, maybe somewhat more.
I’ve also been in one or two arguments with NikonUsa BUT........... I can say with absolute certainty that NikonUsa has ALWAYS been honest and fair. I’ll argue this with anybody. I know they are upright. I’ve tested them.
Here is the thing I think I most like about NikonUsa repairs: When they give a repair cost, it always includes anything extra they may spot during their repair estimate.
They repair what you request AND also repair anything extra, according to their standards, which I have found to be of the highest. And no, they do not do this to "soak you", as some on these forums would have us believe. I know better.
Nobody wants to shell out money for repairs. That is why my expensive stuff stays on the floor....because that way it cannot fall to the floor.
This is complicated machinery and occasionally needs repairing. I do everything I can to minimize that eventuality.
I agree with Bruce's comment: 1. penny wise and pound foolish. 2. the 5-year warranty option

Having had to send my lens in for repair, I suggest you bite the bullet and get a US distribution lens. The premium gives you a 5 year warranty. When spending upwards of $3000 on a camera or lens, I wonder if grey market purchases are penny wise but pound foolish...
Just my 2c's

That's actually why I was asking, I want to be sure I get a US lens.
I am not sure why this was re-quoted, but I will add that the Nikon 200-400mm f/4 VR (1 or 2) pairs really well with the 500PF. I carry and shoot both in the field w/ the 200-400 on a Z6 and the 500 on a D500. I use one for handheld work and the other w/ a tripod... With the Z6, the 200-400 is a much better focusing lens and even usable with a 1.4x converter.
