For those not familiar with the famous Toronto raccoon, this cutie tore the cap off my roof vent, and spent a few days living in my attic with its family. C$500 is for the eviction. Roof repair is extra.
I feel your pain, but love the capture.
I don't tolerate squirrels (damage) or raccoons.
Ever heard of a Conibear?
Most posts here are about the Hejnar, and it looks great. There is some confusion about the
Wimberley and the extra pin to use (or not use) with this one. Are there group members here who have used
the Wimberley?
For the Hejnar, one customer said (see amazon): "Make sure you do not get the lower profile H128. That foot leaves little room for your hands if you carry the lens by the foot." But I don't understand this, it looks to me there is only one version.
And what about the connection of the safety strap? For the moment, I connected the D500 camera strap on my D500 itself, but I'm afraid this connection might be a risk. Can anyone recommend a specific strap connection to the lens foot?
I have no experience with Hejnar but I got Wimberley (similar to my other lenses) and I followed their instructions and did use the pin. It took a couple of tries, but once properly aligned, it seems to have worked perfectly and it looks solid.
As for the strap, yes, you would not want to connect it to the camera body and should connect it to the lens foot. You can either just screw it in the Wimberley foot itself or you can buy a separate Arca Swiss clamp and put it on the foot and connect it to the strap.

Joris - as far as I know there is only one version of the Hejnar replacement foot, so no idea what that person means. I have medium size hands and can very easily carry the lens by holding the foot. Also, there is a threaded hole in the center of the foot. I used that to attach a Black Rapid style retainer, then attached my OpTech sling strap to it so I can carry my lens. Hope that helps.

I bought and use the Wimberley. The pin they send is silly. Just screw it down solid and use it, 100% recommended. You can attach straps or monopod into the threads in the foot too.
I use the Hejnar. Very solid, though recently I lost the srew attaching it. This is after more than 6 months of use and I should have tightened it .Mr.Hejnar immediately answered my mail with descriptions and I replaced the screw locally within the day. Very sturdy foot. Reliable service.
There is a bit less space between the lens and the foot than with the OEM.
Due to the low weight of the lens &D500 setup, I never really used the foot for attachment. I used a heavier lens prior. One can use the foot for attachment of a strap, too.

Regarding a replacement foot, I went for the RRS LCF-11. I have relatively small hands, and the small foot is sufficient to carry the lens/camera, although perhaps not for longer durations—certainly not providing as much comfort as a longer foot with a larger surface area would. However, the "killer app" for the LCF-11 foot is the integrated quick detach (QD) socket machined into the base. It lets me easily carry lens and camera from a Magpul sling without screwing or unscrewing anything. Instantaneous detachment; positive re-engagement. Going forward, I'll make sure most of my accessories have QD attachment points.
If you do go the QD route, I strongly recommend sourcing attachment points/straps directly from Magpul…there are counterfeiters and imitators aplenty, many of whom build parts with shoddy tolerances.
