Awesome work, Mark. You are definitely a proven expert at chasing those desert monsoons and subsequent lightning strikes. I've interacted with a few people who have been on your workshops/tours and were really stoked with the experience.

Thrilling image, and thrilling story! The simplicity really works here. Very "elemental," is the word that comes to mind. Makes me think of the primordial Earth or something.

Hi Johan! Thank you very much for the wonderful compliment. I very much appreciate the encouragement! I am extremely blessed to have been able to do this for a living for many years now. It is a huge privilege that I do not take for granted.

All the best to your own photographic pursuits!

Todd. Or YOU! I think we both might have a screw or two loose. All the best man! Oh, BTW, I'm married! But I think you already knew that? And we has lightning there too!

Cheers.

Thank you, everyone, for the encouraging feedback. I am traveling A LOT now so replies are very delayed. Sorry.

Nice capture - but that bolt looks very very close! Glad you were inside the car. Yikes!
Dave

Hi Dave! I hope you are doing well and getting a lot of shooting done this summer! Yeah, I generally do not get out when bolts are flying over my head! With clients, NO WAY! This is wide angle, so after this very close bolt, we were out of there!!! BTW, I have been reading a lot about lightning lately since I live in FL 1/2 the year and we get the most lightning in the country by far. Cars are not necessarily safe! Just safer!

You are crazy Mark ( in a good way of course) and I like this about you. Great stuff.

Thank you ArturS. There is a grey area of safely for sure with lightning. Some won't mess with it, some will go rushing in. It scares the tar out of me so I think I am somewhere in-between.

Wonderful scary image.

Thank you! I'll certainly agree with the scary part! But I live in FL now and we have lightning like this every afternoon now. I live near "lightning alley." So in a way, I am starting to get a little more used to it. The people around here don't even think about it. I'm still a little timid about it, and maybe that is a good thing. All the best to you!
