This would be very nice. The best of both worlds with current generation DSLR AF performance when the mirror is down and mirrorless performance in live view. I hope Nikon is thinking this way with offering additional value to ongoing DSLR models and spreading sensor development cost by using the same sensors in both lines.

Fingers crossed!

Yes 750 is the best all around camera for the money. It's quality and usability, size and cost are unmatched.

Yeah - for a camera that you could literally just pick up and shoot a wedding tomorrow with, that's an awesome value, especially as those refurbs have been checked out and won't be affected by the shutter recall.

love my D750. The only thing I wish it had was faster shutter speed (1/8000). That 4000 is limiting.

It's a fine camera, but the only thing I like about it that's "better" than the D850 is the price. The weight difference is negligible considering it uses the same largish lenses as its newer and more upscale cousin. If I had one, I doubt I'd ever use it anymore.

We have a christening/baptism tomorrow morning for good friends and I and Marisa have been relegated as the photographers for a free meal My wife Marisa will be using her D750 and 50/1.8G and 85/1.8G which is a superb light/small easy setup. I have opted for my D850 with a 24-70/2.8G ED which I just received this morning for a great price and this lens is truly a surprise package. I have had the Canon versions but I prefer this older 24-70/2.8G version particularly for people/portrait photography. It is very sharp in the centre and I from what I have read it is also sharper than the later E version. I find for churches/people groups the 24-70/2.8 is an absolute must. I have tried primes you always get caught as you cannot predict the movement and framing of people... my legs just don't move quick enough

Awesome! That 24-70 f2.8G is a very sharp lens - not as sharp as the Canon L 24-70 f2.8 v2 unfortunately, but you'd have to look at images at 200% magnification side by side to really tell the difference. Stopped down by a stop or so they're on par though. I will never leave the house for an event photography gig without a general range zoom like that.

This is one with the 24-70 f2.8G and my D850, plus a bit of off camera lighting in the form of a 48" westcott octa

Thanks Sung Very nice shots! There are many uber sharp lenses but I am really liking the rendering/color and look of the older G version for portraits. I will know more after this weekend I have always loved the 70-200 f/2.8 zooms but always reluctant in the past with the 24-70/2.8 zooms knowing that I prefer primes of 35 to 50 usually. Maybe I have now converted

Agreed - however the point of my original post was that I’ve been pleasantly surprised how well the D750 keeps up from an image quality standpoint to a class leading camera like the D850.

Well if you look at the DXO rankings you”ll see classleading for a D850 means 100 points, for a 5,5 year older D800E it means 96 points and a 3 year older D750 it means 93 points....
Don”t get me wrong the D800E (or D750) is not even in the same league regarding allmost everything BUT IQ.
But the reason why I still use the D800E is I simply don’t need “the extras” for the kind of shooting where I use the D800E for.
Marketing and forums like these try to (and succeed) to make us believe classleading means a giant step forward. (Which is not true in terms of better IQ)

I have been trying to think of a reason to add a D5 to my kit, but alas I can’t seem to come up with a good justification. Shooting the D5 makes the D750 feel like a toy

Why are you trying that?
The D5 is simply the fastest most rugged lowlightperformer (OOC) Nikon offers at the moment.
If you have enough FL it’s an amazing camera.
If you have the time and are willing to use a lot of time doing PP the D850 is a nobrainer.

D750 + 28 f/1.8G + 58 f/1.4G + 70-300 f/4.5-5.6E VR = Happy Snapper

Plenty Good Enough Syndrome (for a semi-retired hobbyist)

The 28 f1.8g and 58 f1.4G are awesome on the D750. More often than not, I either have the 28 f1.8g or 35 1.8g on my D750 with the 58 f1.4G in reserve in my Ona Bowery bag - all I really need for walking around.

How do you like the 70-300? I'm trying to decide whether to get that lens, or the Sigma 100-400 for when I need that extra range (already have the 70-200E).

I am impressed with the 70-300mm. I had the previous version that I used to use on a D7100 and the new version is (in my opinion) a lot better image-wise. It's also a bit lighter and the AF is quick and accurate. Check out Thom Hogan's review, I think he has it right, and he's pretty picky:

http://www.dslrbodies.com/lenses/nikon-lens-reviews/nikkor-zoom-lens-reviews/nikon-70-300mm-f45-56-af-p.html

footnote: That 35 f/1.8G lens is excellent. I sold mine when I simplified down to a 3-lens kit. I went with the 28 because I just see better with that focal length and it compliments the 58 nicely. All those 1.8G's are very nice, the 24 and 85 are also excellent. Of all of them, I probably miss the 35 the most. The 24 is probably the best of the bunch though, it's just a bit wider than I enjoy for a general lens.

Thanks - I'll take a look at the 70-300. It would be nice to have a tele for travel so I don't have to worry about bringing my 70-200E with me in sketchy areas.

I find that I gravitate more towards the 35mm FOV than the 28mm one, so I'm likely selling the 28mm. Was trying the G version out as a test to see if I liked the focal length before I purchased the 28 f1.4E.

I'd say the 70-300 would be excellent for travel all things considered price/performance/size/weight. The new AF-P lenses in general seem very good.

I like 35mm as well. With primes (for me anyway) it's about learning what focal length is "most comfortable." I could easily survive with the 35mm, the 28mm just feels a bit more natural to me. We're all different. I've had the idea that the 35mm f/1.4G and 58mm f/1.4G would be a dream pair. The 28mm f/1.4E is in a new league from what I've read and seen online, and out of my league too as a hobbyist retired guy. The "money is no object" lens kit would be the 28/58/105 f/1.4's, zero doubt.

Based on chatter and posted images, the new 70-300 and 70-300 DX are optically awesome. Even against top-grade SWM implementations like the 70-200E, the AF-P motor is fast as blazes. The lowly kit 18-55 AF-P will focus in half the blink of an eye on my D500. For sketchy-area walkabout, I'm upgrading from D500 + 55-200 DX AF-S to D500 + 70-300 DX AF-P. I can give up f/2.8 in this application, and lower weight doesn't hurt.

Awesome thanks. I am pondering what kit I should bring for my next personal project, so this is helpful.

I agree, I currently own the 10-20mm AF-P and 18-55mm AF-P that I use with a D5300 for a lightweight travel kit, these little lenses are amazing. I also owned the 70-300mm DX AF-P it too was amazing, but I sold it to get the FX version so I could use it on both my D750 and D5300. I find these lenses to perform very nicely. (I kept the 55-200mm VRII because I picked it up on sale for like $120 bucks, not too shabby).

Nice pics! That 35mm is a nice little lens isn't it? (agree on the D750 sensor)
